This is just so beautiful and fragile and cute. New electro synth from Sweden. I can’t wait to put this on my iTouch to ease the pain of travelling to work tomorrow at 6am! You can download a couple of tracks for free here, and check out her myspace here.
Right, I must confess that I thought I’d already written about Oh Land but scrolling through some of my stuff on here I realise I haven’t and it’s slightly embarrassing. Since first hearing her fantastic song ‘Sun Of A Gun’, she’s gone on to raid American TV shows while causing a crazy stir on the web. So actually, it’s not very new at all but it’s still exciting. Quirky, inventive and very well done Danish pop. She’s coming to London in May and I can’t wait for it. Check out here.
The Danish pop invasion continues. This tune by Jasmin, roughly translating to ‘My element’ is very infectious. Check out here.
My obsession with Thomas Holm continues. This is his latest single, ‘Lidt for Lidt’ – something to do with being too little, or such… There’s so much good music coming out of Denmark right now, very exciting. I wish people wouldn’t get put off by enjoying music that isn’t in English!
Overflow is the first single from Little Majorette’s upcoming debut album “Rifle Heart” (Sweden Music/Universal Music, April 2011). Check out here.
Teddybears have previously worked with Robyn on ‘Cobrastyle’ from *that* album which shook the pop world crazy side. They’ve collaborated with her again on ‘Cardiac Arrest’- it’s got a cheeky upbeat poppy vibe to it which is just perfect to listen to on one’s birthday! Buy it here.
I went to Stockholm this weekend to watch the Melodifestivalen final, Sweden’s biggest TV show and a dream-come-true for any Eurovision fan. I know people think it’s a bit sad, but I’ve been looking forward to the trip since last October when I brought the tickets. It was also a good excuse to check out Sweden. Stockholm was way bigger than I imagined it to be, and even though I only managed to cover a tiny bit of the city, it’s the most kooky place I’ve ever visited- just take a look at the place we stayed in!
Melodifestivalen was at the Ericsson Globe Arena (known for hosting Eurovision in 2000), which is a giant ball shaped venue that is absolutely huge on the inside. The winner of the show goes on to represent Sweden in Eurovision- this year it was this song by Eric Saade:
Pretty spectacular, albeit the lyrics are a bit on the weak side… But judging by the bars and clubs around town, it seemed that this song by Danny Saucedo (which came runner up) was the favourite amongst Swedes:
After the show we went to a Melodifestival party at a gay club tucked away in a really dodgy part of the city. One of my favourite songs from this year (which didn’t get through to the final) was this tune by Jenny Silver:
It was heaven. Now back to the real world and new music! More pics on Flickr.
”Just as the track is a multifaceted pop song we wanted tomake a multifaceted video. We were compelled about thiscertain space in which the abstract and the human emotionalare brought together with symbols about the universallife. The future, we believe, holds a new form of communityfor all people and this we will soon begin to encounter. Thatis why we want to explore symbols about the universal.” Check out here.
This is a bit huge in Sweden at the moment, and I can totally see why. How do the Swedes get it so right so much of the time!? A rock/pop vibe with a big big sound. Check out here.
Some Swedish pop now- title to the track roughly translates to ‘everything will be good’, or maybe ‘everything will be OK’… Even if you can’t understand the words it still kinda makes you feel good! Check out here.
Erik Hassle, one of my favourite Swedes of late, is previewing his first new single here (wait for the Swedish ad to finish then it plays straight after). It’s out in Sweden tomorrow. It’s excellent. An electro transition from the older Hassle stuff. Love it. Nothing this man does is wrong at the moment.
”When being in love everything that was inside before is now worn outside. Sweat bubbles in your palms, blood flushes through to the cheek (blushing). This feeling illustrates more than anything else the body’s reluctance to take a definite form”. Beautiful acoustic songs about love from Bastian Kallesøe. Check out here.
Click here to check out Lena Philipsson’s new single, ‘Idiot’. It’s a really classy bit of pop, very mellow but upbeat at the time. It’s not had great reactions but I like it. If anything, I just love the way she sings ‘Idioot’. I might start saying that now. Lena is a huge pop institution in Sweden by the way, she’s been around for a crazy amount of time, and she’s represented Sweden in Eurovision.
