MP3: Jamie xx – Far Nearer (Foamo Refix)

New Music: Marty James

This is a summery sounding track, which ironically hasn’t really surfaced for me til now- the end of summer. But I love the laid back, almost effortless vibe around this song. Check out here.

New Music: The New Velvet

I like any band that I find hard to describe. This is one such band- I can see them making an impact in the US.  I guess it’s rock/pop that doesn’t have that annoying Avril Lavigne sound attached to it. Check out here.

First Watch: AlunaGeorge ‘You Know You Like It’

I’m 27 years old, but I feel about 15 when I hear this new track from AlunaGeorge. Love it. ‘You Know You Like It’ is out this week on Super Recordings.

New Music: Kurtis John

This stuff is so new that I couldn’t find too many videos of Kurtis John so I’ve posted this cover of Lykke Li which is pretty nice, but I know you can listen to the EP on Facebook. Formerly in a band called The Last Goodnight. Check out here.

New Music: Sun Glitters

They call it ‘post-dubstep’. “Sun Glitters sound is an ocean of lush melodies, pitch-shifted vocal samples, ghostly digi-diva choirs, warm bass melodies driven by alternately dense and relaxing beatwork combinations between downtempo and wonky beats.” Check out here.

New Music: Scala & Kolacny Brothers

Something a bit different today. Scala is a unique thing. The classically trained Kolacny Brothers; Steven (piano) and Stijn (conducting) have turned their Belgian all-girl choir into an international phenomenon, performing reinterpretations of Radiohead, U2, Nirvana and Metallica songs (to name but a few) as well as their equally successful original compositions. Check out here.

Free Download: David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ turned into kid’s book

Right then, this is properly amazing, beautiful stuff. The lyrics from David Bowie’sSpace Oddity‘ have been turned into a gorgeous children’s book, illustrated by Canadian graphic designer Andrew Kolb. You can download a digital copy of the book for free over at Kolb’s website (although he seems to have removed all the lyrics within the book now- thanks David Bowie).

New Music: Electric Guest

LA-based pop with that hazy, dreamy California sound. The new Chester French perhaps? It’s very sexy. Check out here.

New Music: RD

This is written by Katy B, and it has a fresh UK urban sound to it that has a massive throwback to that garage sound that came out of London ten years ago. I call this the new Mis-Teeq. Check out here.

Free Download: Tyson ‘Fight’

“A track that could have come straight out of early 80’s Disco New York, think ‘She’s A Maniac’ meets ‘Beat It’ and you’ll start to get the idea. The track is a little teaser ahead of a brand new single in September and his debut album which is set for release in early 2012.” Check out here.

MP3: Tyson – Fight

John Dahlback ft. Erik Hassle ‘One Last Ride’

A very unusual collaboration but one that works for sure. This song samples Erik Hassle’s beautiful ‘Last Rider’ and gives it a big dance kick. Listen to the gorgeous original here. Love!

New Music: Boss In Drama

Ridiculously camp europop disco stuff. This would have fitted right in to Kylie‘s ‘Light Years’ album. With the upcoming release of his debut album, entitled “Pure Gold”, producer Pericles Martins, aka Boss in Drama, releases this as his debut single. Check out here.

Waylayers to make new music every Saturday

East London trio Waylayers are writing, recording and posting a new track on their Facebook page each Saturday for the foreseeable future, accompanied by a homemade video. For Saturday 20th August, they gave us the amazing sing along synth-pop anthem, ‘Magnets’:

This week Waylayers have broadened their pop sensibility with another dreamy synth-laden tune called ‘Silver Feeling’:

Keep checking Waylayers’ Facebook page for more updates and their single ‘Hear No Lies’ will be available to download from iTunes on 14th September. They are also playing on Sat 10th September @ The Borderline.

New Music: St Vincent

St Vincent has actually been around for a while but with the release of this video she’s really got a lot of buzz. A former member of The Polyphonic Spree, Annie Erin Clark uses a whole mix of instruments to make rich sounds. Check out here.

New Music: HandS

This Norwegian pop duo have made a massive splash on the web with this track. It’s like a mix of all the sounds that made Scandinavian music so huge across the world. Absolutely love love love this. Check out here.
