Today marks the return of acclaimed UK-based pop outfit Gold Spectacles.
‘How To Make A Million’ was written, recorded and produced in its entirety by the duo themselves, and addresses feelings of loss and grief in a beautifully sensitive and emotive way.
“On the first sunny day of spring in 2017, my dad woke up early, got on his motorbike and headed for the coast. He didn’t come home. Nothing can prepare you for the loss of a parent. The hollowness, the emptiness, the unfinished conversations, the unexpected guilt. In my situation, it was very sudden – the news of the accident didn’t seem real. I still have a hard time believing he is really gone. I keep expecting him to turn up. Time is the only thing that can separate you from the emotion but when you stop and think about it, it’s still as raw as ever. This is definitely the hardest song we’ve written.”
The track is lifted from the group’s forthcoming EP, which is scheduled for release this May.
To date, Gold Spectacles have received support from heavyweight tastemakers as noted as BBC 6 Music, KCRW, Indie Shuffle and The Line of Best Fit.
