ā€œIt’s kind of a push-and-pull between two characters who take themselves way too seriously. They’re both convinced they’re the reasonable one in the relationship, but it’s not even clear if they like each other.ā€ – Nicole Rowe, Worthitpurchase

ā€œIt always amazes me how quickly a song can emerge from nothing— just an abstract thought in someone’s head that suddenly becomes real. That spark of creation is what the title refers to.ā€ – Omar Akrouche, Worthitpurchase

New Music: Hollie GautiƩr

“One of the biggest reasons I love this song so much is because of how universal the lyrics are and how many interpretations they could have. When I wrote this song I was feeling a bit lost in life and overwhelmed by everything I want to achieve and how to get there and I found that when I was trying to explain to people how I felt people would often jump to finding the solution when really all I wanted was to sit in the confusion of it all for a moment with them. This song is about accepting all of these feelings and embracing them. I used the ocean in the music video as a metaphor for this.ā€

New Music: Max Baby

TRACK OF THE WEEK

We’ve not come across an artist who excites us as much as alternative artist Max Baby has in quite some time.

This emerging Parisian singer, songwriter, and producer crafts a style of sound that is so refreshingly distinct and unexpected, yet also so emotionally charged that it really does leave you feeling like you’ve experienced music in a new way.

‘I Can Do Anything’ was driven by a breakup – but it also looks at the inner struggles that haunt us when we try to overcome our pain and bring ourselves back from the abyss. The track is sonically raw and lyrically introspective and feels like a song we can all relate to.

ā€œ’I Can Do Anything’ is a push-pull between shadow and light, a raw song about the inability to let go, masked by a defiant but hollow sense of empowerment. I was going through the toughest breakup of my life when I wrote it. But it’s not just a breakup song, it also questions the relationship I have with myself. The chorus came first, like an empowering mantra I was repeating to try and lift this weight off my chest. But the more I tried to move on, the more I wondered: can you ever truly get rid of something like that? Or do you just learn to live with it?ā€

New Music: Babsy.

Your weekend banger has landed, and it comes in the form of ‘Gorgeous’ by California producer Babsy.

This track reminds us of sounds by other electronic icons like Jamie xx and Fred again.. as well as the early work from Mike Skinner and The Streets. In equal measures, the song feels both nostalgic and future-forward, which is so refreshing to experience.

Babsy. is most inspired when surfing and roaming in nature, and makes music with the intention of lifting people’s spirits and reassuring listeners that they are never alone. This is a great artist with a great purpose behind his work… and we’re here for it!

New Music: George Lyons

George Lyons is one of the most exciting talents to emerge from Ireland in recent months. While still only 19 years old, this artist is already carving a name for himself thanks to his playful pop productions.

‘LOLA’ is a nostalgia-tinged bop that fits along the lines of Californian pop-rock from the early 00s, while the lyrics are inspired by the feelings of freedom from being in love.

“It’s a carefree, coming-of-age anthem about loving someone exactly as they are—flaws and all. For anyone young, in love, and not taking life too seriously.”

The track is lifted from Lyons’s forthcoming, independently created EP, which is scheduled for release this autumn. Until then, fans can look forward to three more singles.

“BOY JOY! is about the incredible feeling of trans and queer joy, it’s about finding your community and truly having that deep sense of pride. As a non-binary artist it feels counterintuitive to write a song so gendered, but i feel like there is something so special about the joy emanated from the trans masculine community and from my friends, i wanted to write a song that felt so playful but empowering, reminding everyone that there is always joy out there if you open yourself up to the right people, and no matter WHAT you are still here and exist regardless of what anyone says.”

TRACK OF THE WEEK

ā€œā€™Learning to Forget’ has a true Georgian structure, from starting quite slow, melancholy and reflective, to progressing to a heavy, distorted and powerful sound – expect the unexpected! The song itself discusses heartbreak and how you can be so eager to forget everything when a relationship ends. Even though you don’t want the memories and small reminders of that person, they still happen.ā€ – Georgia McKiernan, Georgian

TRACK OF THE WEEK

A perfect harmony between UK garage and techno, tesh’s new single ‘APOLOGIES’ makes an immediate impact from the moment you press play.

Lifted from the artist’s ‘CYCLES + REPETITIONS’ EP (out now), this track guides the listener through a spectrum of emotions – from moments of darkness to heightened euphoria – while still sounding cohesive.

“‘APOLOGIES’ is my way of paying homage to the new wave of UKG/2-step, while showcasing some fresh production styles. I used that iconic vocal sample but gave it a darker twist. The track is kept simple, with not too much going on, as I really wanted the strong drum kit and booming bass to shine through. Emotionally, it’s a reflection of my own struggles with communication, especially in relationships. The end of the track is meant to be that moment of reflection and clarity.”

Tesh’s music has been heralded by Billboard magazine, while their songs have landed placements on flagship playlists like Spotify’s All New Dance and Amazon’s Breakthrough Electronic.

go4broke might be a new name to most, but this talent has been steadily building a solid fanbase online with his distinctive take on pop. Always evolving and surprising listeners, this is an artist who is unafraid to experiment.

‘remember winter’ is a gorgeous introduction to anyone who has yet to come across his work. This track feels tender and fragile in its tone but is sonically ambitious and refreshingly daring.

To create this song, go4broke simply used a piano and guitar and completed the track with some sound design from collaborators Warpstr, Cayelli, and Josh Rorstad. You can stream more tracks right here.

New Music: Rue Vega

While little in life is ever certain, one thing we can all be sure of is that as time goes on, we inevitably begin to age. And with that comes a plethora of personal struggles and the constant conflict that tussles in our minds between accepting and loving ourselves while also being unfairly critical of the way we start to look.

“I grew up hearing my nana call all the other women in my family beautiful but complain about her own looks constantly. Whether it was that her arms were too fat, her rosacea looked ugly, or she didn’t like the way her ankles looked, she was always so hard on herself. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve seen the effect that had on my mom. She’s hard on herself about her looks too. And as much as the women in my family have told me I’m beautiful, I’ve been hard on myself too. I still am.

‘I Wish You Knew’ is a song that gathers its inspiration from such dilemmas. The artist, newcomer Rue Vega, wrote the lyrics after an interaction with a customer while working in a clothes store, who was feeling insecure about trying on the clothes that she was drawn to.

“I told my manager I was going to take a quick bathroom break, snuck my phone in, and made a note with the first line of the chorus: ‘I wish you knew how beautiful you are.’Ā  It was what I wished I could’ve said to that woman.”

It’s a lovely piece of music that will no doubt resonate with many of us who are having to overcome our insecurities. So if you’re feeling a little bit down and need a pick-up, then we strongly suggest giving this song a spin!

“The song narrates the emotional journey of an imperfect protagonist who is well aware she is embracing toxic, typical player behavior. Throughout the track, KAYELLE expresses annoyance and spite but ultimately embodies a carefree nonchalance about the fleeting situation.”

New Music: Sara Baroni

The first thing that stands out to us when we play ‘Where did he go?’ is Sara Baroni’s beautifully delicate and melancholic voice.

This talent is already creating some great hype thanks to her thoughtful compositions, which blend soft pop with soulful indie. It’s all the more impressive when you discover that Baroni is a 17-year-old student who has been writing songs from as early as 2022.

“‘Where did he go?’ reflects on that in-between space where emotions surface before you’re ready to name them. Whether it’s about your own experience or watching a friend fall for someone, the song explores how easy it is to stay in denial when the truth feels a little too close.”

Baroni has amassed more than 250k career streams to date on Spotify alone. You can explore more of her songs here.

New Music: Franklin Mansion

TRACK OF THE WEEK

Irish-born and Brighton-based artist Franklin Mansion is one of the most interesting newcomers to come across our radars this spring.

The exciting prospect has a distinct approach with the way he creates his songs. The tracks are brave and experimental, yet still maintain an emotive essence which allows them to feel relatable.

“‘You Were Never Really Here (Chloroform)’ is about that blurry place where a relationship ends emotionally before it ends physically. It’s the fourth version of this track. I kept re-recording it until it felt honest. Everything you hear was recorded in my bedroom in Brighton.”

While there’s still not much out there about Franklin Mansion, we think that it’ll only be a matter of time before he starts building momentum. A debut album titled ‘Speak with Your Limbs’ is on the way, so be sure to follow this artist on the socials!
