“’Me Without You’ is my follow up to ‘Moral Of The Story.’ It’s saying you thought that I needed you to be who I am. There is my past relationship… I had multiple people… You know, assumed that I needed them in my life to feel confident or to be me and ‘Me Without You’ is just this record that’s like, ‘Ooh, I am so good on my own.’”
Taken from the forthcoming debut album ‘Ashlyn’ which is out on 7th May 2021 out on Mom + Pop Music.
“I look at ‘Save Myself’ as the precursor to ‘Moral of the Story’ instead of the follow up. People say there are five stages of grief; I wrote ‘Moral of the Story’ in the fifth stage of grieving my relationship: acceptance. ‘Save Myself’ (although, written post ‘Moral’) is about my second stage: anger. It means the world to have a chance to express the anger I felt in a healthy way, because whether we like it or not, our anger demands to be felt and let out.”
