Remi Wolf knows remixes well…

I don’t usually feature EP’s in their entirety on Alfitude, but then again Remi Wolf was never the ‘usual’ kind of pop starlet.

Today sees the release of a remix package called ‘We Love Dogs!’ that includes some all-time pop royalty including Beck, Hot Chip, Little Dragon, Free Nationals, Sylvan Esso and Nile Rodgers as well as the likes of Kimbra, Panda Bear, Dominic Fike, Phony Ppl, and Porches. I keep saying it: watch out for Remi Wolf… this kid is the next generation of pop.

Every remix on the EP is a unique in its own special way – from start to finish. If there’s one record that will raise your spirts, pulse and ass off the chair – it’s this one!

“This is very sick. Half of these artists are ones I studied in school and have admired since I was a teenager. Needless to say I’m shook! I hope you dance, vibe, shower, and chill to these remixes! I hope you make a lasagna or an eggplant parmesan while you listen to them, too!!!”

This is BBC Radio 6 Music Live

That almighty bastion of British radio that champions the new and interesting, Radio 6 released a ‘Music Live’ double-CD compilation to celebrate ten years of live music at the station yesterday. I was planning on doing a quick review over the weekend but as the last four days have been sent from hell I’ve only managed to muster some energy to fully enjoy this now.

You just can’t beat a great band singing a classic song in somewhere as intimate as a radio booth. There’s entries on this compilation from established greats such as Elbow, Amy Winehouse, Beck, Goldfrapp, Friendly FiresGroove Armada and Manic Street Preachers. But there’s also an equally impressive selection of fresh new talent coming from the likes of Lana Del Rey, Foster The People, First Aid Kit and Michael Kiwanuka.

Overall the compilation blends effortlessly, and would have been ideal garden-listening had the weather been good. Highlights are of course Amy Winehouse’s live rendition of ‘Stronger Than Me’ and Friendly Fires’ ‘Paris’- two gorgeous songs that really stand their own in an intimate setting. Check out the album right here!

Jamie Lidell – Compass : Best record of the year so far

I brought Jamie Lidell’s new album, Compass, yesterday and it’s all I’ve been listening to all day. This guy can do no wrong! It’s a cross between soul, blues, a little bit of soft electro and that unique Beck beat (Beck produced Compass). I’m seeing Jamie play in London tommorrow, so excited! Check out here.
