Belot – Cool Whip

We’ve made no secret in the past of just how obsessed we are with UK talent Belot.

Following on from the release of her much-acclaimed ‘Harmless Fun’ EP last year, this rising starlet returns today with a brand new single called ‘Cool Whip’.

As we’ve come to expect from Belot, the track presents listeners with a refreshingly eccentric mix of indie and pop. Explaining the inspiration behind the lyrics, she says:

“‘Cool Whip’ is about being in a relationship with someone who initially seems caring and extremely generous, but down the line you come to realise that every gift and or kind gesture was a cover up for yet another affair or slip up. I’ve had a few friends over the years that eventually discovered spontaneous flowers could also be red flags. So I always thought it would be interesting to write about the sort of dynamic, where the nicer the gift, the worse the crime.”

With more than 3.5 million career streams already under her belt, it looks like 2023 might be the year that Belot (deservedly) hits the mainstream. Keep an eye on this one!

Belot – Driving To LA

Belot is one of those artists who never fails to disappoint with her releases. This is a talent who consistently delivers premium pop gems that immediately uplift any mood.

Today’s release of ‘Driving to LA’ is further proof of this newcomer’s remarkable talents. Here is a shimmering, summery and playful slice of pop perfection that is sure to elevate Belot’s name further into the limelight.

“‘Driving to LA’ is about when you have grown up in a teen relationship. You thought it would be a fling when it started but in the blink of an eye 16-18 flies by. All of a sudden you are faced with the fact that you have separate goals and opportunities that don’t exactly facilitate each other. The dynamic that worked so flawlessly when you were at school doesn’t seem to translate into adulthood. You will always have love for one another, but you have to find your own footing and start building your careers.”

If you’re as much of a fan of this rising starlet as we are, be sure to give her latest EP, ‘Harmless Fun’ a listen here.

New Music: Belot

Undoubtedly, one of my favourite alt-pop talents of the week has to be London-based songwriter Belot.

Her new single ‘Harmless Fun’ channels an almost Prince-like aura through its bouncing production and glittering guitar hooks, and is certain to win you over after just one listen.

“‘Harmless Fun’ came about during the first lockdown in the UK. I found myself binge watching Modern Family, and it led me to this idea. The concept was essentially: What if the Dad character Phil Dunphy turned up to a conference thinking it was going to be a very legitimate and educational work conference and then all of a sudden he sees a whole bunch of businessmen absolutely hammered. He swiftly realises this is an adult version of spring break. The song is about giving in to the lighter side of life, and not being afraid to let your hair down. After all that’s what life is about, having fun!”

Already garnering praise from the likes of BBC Radio 1, The Line Of Best Fit, Earmilk, Official Charts and Record of the Day, this artist’s style of ‘awkward pop’ is rapidly winning her a legion of fans.
