One of the most impressive pop newcomers to have emerged from Canada over the last couple of years has been 22-year old singer & songwriter Charlie Houston.

While currently on tour alongside ODESZA, Houston has also unveiled her new single today, entitled ‘Dinosaurs in the Garden’. The track continues to showcase this rising artist’s refreshing approach to alternative pop.

Speaking on the song’s inspiration, Houston says that it’s all about:

“The fear of getting your heartbroken while in a relationship. While you have no reason to suspect it’s going to happen, there is always looming anxiety about the fact that you’ve allowed yourself to fall for someone and now can’t control whether it works out or not.”

Charlie Houston – Things

Charlie Houston has caused quite the stir since debut single ‘Calls‘ was unleashed to the world at the start of the year.

Since then, she’s garnered recognition from heavyweights such as Zane Lowe, NPR and SPIN Magazine, as well as landing on Spotify’s global New Music Friday playlist.

Showing no signs of slowing down, Houston returns today with a finessed slice of downtempo-pop that reflects on her youthful insecurities and unrequited affection with raw vulnerability.

“The song is sort of about becoming so infatuated with someone that you begin to lose sight of who you are. Also comparing yourself to the kind of person you think they want, and trying to become that.”

New Music: Charlie Houston

Canada continues to show itself as a hotbed for talent with the introduction of 19-year old artist Charlie Houston, who’s approach to music-making fuses sharp lyricism with melodic indie-pop tones.

“I just want my songs to be super authentic and address shit that all young people deal with.”

Taken from the upcoming  EP ‘I Hate Spring’ which is due on 23 April 2021.
