Cherise – Calling

Acclaimed UK-based soul artist Cherise is back today with one of our favourite summer releases yet.

‘Calling’ tells of the wonderful and positive things that can happen when you nurture and support your children’s creativity.

“My mum and the rest of the family had the sense that being creative was something I was meant to do. It wasn’t until I became a musician that I realised how uncommon that is, especially for families that moved to this country and would live with the fear that their child wouldn’t find their grounding in the arts.”

As Cherise’s name continues to gain traction across the British and European soul scenes, this gifted musician has never forgotten her roots – and continues to recognise her heritage and culture through her work.

The artist will perform as part of the futuretense: Windrush Day Special at London’s iconic Southbank Centre on the 22nd June – more details can be found here. Cherise’s debut album ‘Calling’ is out on 7th July 2023 (pre-save here).

Cherise – 2 Steppin

Cherise is no stranger to the Alfitude pages – and you’ll find out why as soon as you play her summery new single, ‘2 Steppin’.

The track marks the UK soul starlet’s return, and was inspired by the childhood trips she would take to see her late grandfather:

“When I was younger, my mum would bring me from Luton to Hackney for him to babysit me and my little sister.”

Explaining the meaning of the song’s title, Cherise goes on to explain:

“He had so much swag, walking so slowly down Ridley Road, with this two-step; no hesitation.”

Cherise has a packed scheduled over the next few months. The artist will be performing on the jazz festival circuit throughout the early summer (locations and tickets here), before releasing a new album entitled ‘Calling’ on the 7th July 2023 (pre-save here).

Cherise – Secrets

At the forefront of emerging British R&B-soul artistry is CHERISE, who has returned with a sublime slice of bliss through her new single, ‘Secrets’.

Written as a way to encourage us to speak our minds, the song’s sense of self-empowerment is beautifully complimented by a melodic and soulful production.

“‘Secrets’ is my first step in a new creative direction. And I wrote the song with Tobie Tripp, at a time when I was encouraging myself to be creatively brave. The visuals were shot in the beautiful landscape of Switzerland, and represent fresh beginnings. The song is about finding the bravery to be your true self in the company of those who love you”

CHERISE’s momentum is stronger than ever. Currently this artist commands more than 80k monthly Spotify listeners, and has also received praise from iconic tastemakers like Dazed, DMY and Notion.

New Music: Cherise

UK-based talent CHERISE has created one of the most sublime cuts of R&B that I have come across all week. A stunning melody sets the tone for emotive lyrics that are sung gorgeously over a finessed production.

“I wrote ‘Rise’ while in deep grief and it was my way of remaining hopeful. I share this song to extend a sense of optimism in the face of the uncertainty we all share in this time.”

Taken from the upcoming EP ‘Remedy’ which is due for release by LAB Records on 29th October 2021. Cherise also plays at London’s Ninety One Living Room on 13th November 2021.
