Devan + Jon Vinyl – nascar

Two emerging Canadian powerhouses (and Alfitude favourites) join forces today on the release of ‘nascar’.

Initially a solo release by Devan, this new edit features vocals from R&B wonder-kid Jon Vinyl – and it truly is a collaboration that exceeds all expectations.

Together, these artists have managed to create one of the most sublime releases of the week, showcasing a triumphant union of soul and pop.

“This song came about in an interesting way because it evolved out of a freestyle. I usually start with lyrics, or at least a general concept/emotion that I want to draw from. In this case, I just sat down and looped some chords on the guitar and left a voice note running until the song was pretty much done. It came very quickly, and I didn’t really know what I was trying to say until it was finished. It’s about escapism and wanting to drive away from anxiety and sadness.” – Devan

“Working with Devan on ‘nascar’ was a great experience. As soon as I heard the song, I immediately fell in love with the approach she took with the songwriting. My goal was to add some different textures to an already great song to create a new experience for our fans. I can’t wait for everyone to hear this special track.” – Jon Vinyl

The track is lifted from Devan’s forthcoming ‘Liquid Sunshine’ deluxe EP, which is out this September.

Devan – Orchid

I’ve lost count of the number of times that I have featured Devan at this point. This Canadian singer-songwriter is crafting some of the sweetest indie bops to emerge from the country, and new single ‘Orchid’ is no exception.

Taken from her ‘Liquid Sunshine’ EP, the song is all about feeling under-appreciated in a relationship. Orchids are naturally resilient flowers that are low maintenance; they die and grow back with little care. Devan ponders if that’s why a lot of people have them – they sit there and look pretty yet you don’t need to show them much love.

Devan – Lie

Canadian indie pop singer-songwriter Devan returns today with the beautifully emotive and totally relatable ‘Lie’.

The song is all about the blissful ignorance you allow yourself to feel when you know a relationship is going sour, but refuse to accept reality.

Devan – Conclusions

Canadian singer Devan returns today with the beautifully melancholy ‘Conclusions‘. It’s a dreamy slice of indie pop that feels deeply emotive in a subtle and delicate way.

The song is taken from the debut EP ‘Pink Noise’, which was released today. On the EP, Devan says:

“’Pink Noise’ is about insecurity, but it’s also about being able to breathe out and feel a sense of relief towards my revelation that my reality is formed by my own perceptions. Writing songs for me is a way to uncover my underlying feelings about something – putting elusive emotions into tangible sentences, and coming to terms with them. My only guideline for writing these songs was to try to be as honest with myself as possible, and follow my instincts without all the self-inflicted barriers that I usually let get in the way.”

New Music: Devan

Canadian talent Devan posses the kind of distinctive vocal that instantly stands out – and if you feel that you may have heard it before then that’s because she also co-fronts folk-pop group Wild Rivers, who’s songs have amassed over 140 million global streams.

This solo effort takes a mellow approach to indie-pop that captures the feeling of driving around at night with someone you love – aimless, chatting, listening to music. It’s a particularly special sense of freedom.

Taken from the forthcoming debut EP ‘Pink Noise’ which is out on 26th February.
