One of our favourite Irish discoveries in recent times has been Dublin-based singer and songwriter Lucy McWilliams.

The artist is releasing one last single before the year ends – and it’s a gorgeously dreamy slice of lo-fi indie pop that deserves your attention.

Written as a love song, ‘Follow Me’ is as charming as it is relatable. Elaborating further on the beautifully melodic the track, McWilliams says:

“‘Follow Me’ at its core is just a straightforward love song. It’s about being excited about someone, and feeling all the possibilities of the world in that person. At a time, that was a different kind of love that I hadn’t experienced. I think it’s a weird feeling, going through different relationships, but never really feeling loved. But then stumbling upon someone and within a small window of time, suddenly feeling at ease.”

Lucy McWilliams has undeniably become one of Ireland’s newest global stars. While still only 23-years of age, this talent has already racked up more than 16 million career streams – with new single ‘Plastic’ likely to push that number even higher.

Serving as a masterclass in alt-pop, the track invites listeners into an atmospheric soundscape that is somehow both vibrant yet haunting. Explaining the song further, McWilliams says:

“I wrote this song coming from a place where I was upset with myself for allowing a version of me to take over that I wasn’t comfortable with, wanting to be loved. I realised how easy it is to downplay your emotions to fit into a version of yourself that you think is more loveable. It’s exploring the desperation of love, and the anger you can have towards someone who holds it.”

There’s no doubt in our minds that McWilliams’ momentum will continue to grow in 2024… and deservedly so!

Irish artist Lucy McWilliams is back with a beautifully mellow and soulful sound through the release of new single ‘Bumblebees and Blue Skies’.

Proving the concept that ‘less is more’, the track’s lofty production treats listeners to a piece of music that is alluring and charming to experience. Speaking on the lyrics, McWilliams explains:

“I guess it’s the feeling of loving someone so dearly and knowing that you might not be good for each other but to savour what you do have while you still have it. I feel a lot of what I write touches on this, but ‘Bumblebees and Blue Skies’ is the idea of running away and having your little world together until it breaks apart; in a fantastic world essentially.”

This rising singer-songwriter continues to build momentum with every release, and currently commands an impressive 207k monthly listeners on Spotify alone.
