One of the most promising new rock outfits to emerge from the UK recently, sweethearts return with another track that gives me reason to love them even more.
Inspired by the 90’s sound, ‘she called me sweetheart’ is served with a heady dose of melancholy while still maintaining a sense of playfulness.
“This is a very personal song – lyrically quite sad in contrast to the bouncy music. Musically it continues are style in being influenced by 90s groups and taking it further or as people say, another banger by sweethearts.”
With a strong ode to 90’s garage rock, UK band sweethearts have a style of music that draws from the likes of Pavement, Weezer and the Pixies and delivers a sound that is both impactful and relatable in equal measures.
“This was written some time last winter after loads of bad things happened in the world, partly inspired by the George Floyd killing and aftermath, and I wanted to write a song not about it, but for it. I focused more on the flowing lyrics, like Bob Dylan, rather than a structured pop song.”
