Tom A. Smith – Put On A Record Tommy

This weekend’s banger comes courtesy of rising UK artist Tom A. Smith and his brilliant new single, ‘Put On A Record Tommy’.

The track treats listeners to a quintessentially British take on indie. Cheeky, infectiously catchy, and confidently bold, the production blends nostalgic 80s-inspired synth-pop with a more gritty indie-rock sound.

The song is lifted from a new EP that shares its title, with a limited edition vinyl being released next month.

“Tommy’s dance place is officially open. Put on a record Tommy is a party and everyone is invited. But it’s not all it seems. Where do I go from here?”

We first featured Tom when he was just 17 and were impressed with his work even in those early days. Now aged 21, it’s clear that this is an artist to watch for.

Tom A. Smith – Boltcutters

Fast-rising 17-year-old Sunderland newcomer Tom A. Smith releases his debut collection of songs today in the form of ‘EP1’, and with it comes breezy new single ‘Boltcutters’.

“It came from an idea about not wanting to fall for someone and them using all their powers for it to work. A bit of fun compared to the heavy stuff. Love playing it live as I have people singing it back already.”

To date, Tom’s music has earned radio play on the BBC (Radio 1, 6Music and Introducing), Radio X, KCRW, Triple J, and Amazing Radio, as well as being featured on The Times, CLASH, Louder Than War, NARC and RTE.

‘EP1’ is out now.

New Music: Tom A. Smith

Emerging from the UK comes Sunderland-based newcomer Tom A. Smith. Despite only being 17-years old, this talent has already achieved more than most artists do in a lifetime. His first gig came aged just eight, and he’s already performed at the legendary Glastonbury and Kendall Calling festivals.

Anthemic debut single ‘Wolves’ was produced by Larry Hibbitt, who’s worked alongside the likes of Nothing But Thieves, The Snuts and Sea Girls.

“I wrote ‘Wolves’ during a time when I felt that the vulnerable were being neglected, and in my opinion nothing much has changed.”
