Chicago-bred musician Alexander 23 returns with a bold and beautifully moving release in the form of new single ‘Hate Me If It Helps’.
Brimming with raw emotional intensity, the song came to life as he dealt with the demise of a monumental relationship.
“I’d gotten to a point where I realised that I loved this person enough that I didn’t care what it took for them to feel better after the breakup – so if blaming me gets them to where they need to be, I’m totally okay with that.”
Alexander 23 joins John Mayer on his upcoming Sob Rock Tour 2022.
“I thought about postponing this song release due to everything going on, but I think maintaining as much normalcy (while still being safe) as we can is something that we owe to ourselves and each other. Additionally I think the message of the song really applies to what we are all going through right now. Being there for people when things are easy is easy, but being there for people when thing get hard is hard. And it’s the latter that really defines a compassionate relationship.”
“‘I Hate You So Much’ is about being emotionally haunted by someone you desperately want to despise. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try to hate someone, you can’t escape your unhealthy love for them.”
