Brett Castro – BLUE

One of Brooklyn’s finest pop singer-songwriters returns today with the release of his charmingly nostalgic and melancholic new single, ‘BLUE’.

On the track, Brett Castro presents bedroom-pop guitar sounds with elements of synth, alongside crisp vocals that tell of what Castro describes as “those pandemic days when you felt like an Anvil in bed, all burnt out, and paralysed by anxiety.”

“This song is my response to all the sadness and darkness in the world these past couple years. I wanted to stay honest in my lyrics but have the sounds to be sparkly and fun. I hope this song offers people some grace when they’re feeling like I did. I know we all could use it.”

Castro’s previous releases have landed on Spotify’s Viral 50 chart and New Music Friday, as well as featured in Billboard, HillyDilly, and Lyrical Lemonade.

Brett Castro – movies in the backyard

movies in the backyard’ is that kind of indie-pop song that immediately casts a spell on you, leaving you totally mesmerised and in love with it.

Written in Castro’s childhood bedroom, the song is a nostalgic cut that paints romantic vignettes of his life – “every bruise a badge of honour when we’re flying up the trees” – that feel like you’re watching an A24 film.

“‘movies in the backyard’ was written on a challenge from my childhood friends to write a song about growing up together in Ohio. We were always running through the woods, singing around the piano, or shooting YouTube videos in their backyard. They were my escape out of my own world and into one that we made fantastical. Sometimes I feel like I never left that backyard, and I’m still foraging around for that feeling. And so that’s what I ended up writing.”

Brett Castro – High Heat

An immensely powerful song which laments the loss of Castro’s cousin, who was tragically caught in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting at the age of just 23.

The song begins with the pain from loss, but evolves into an anthem that inspires you to grow forward and keep moving on.

“Losing my cousin was more painful than anything in the world… and this song continuously heals me. It reminds me to scream out in anger when I need to, but afterwards, breathe.”

All of the proceeds from the first month of sales/streams will be donated to the Violence Policy Center, an organization fighting for gun reform.
