Vau – Cocoon Time

We only featured Vau a couple of months ago, but we can already safely call ourselves fans of this rising newcomer.

The Swedish singer and songwriter is back today with a gorgeous song called ‘Cocoon Time’, and it’s really quite something. The production blends bedroom pop with fuzzy indie, resulting in a hazy and subdued style of sound. And yet despite its minimalism, this track still feels sonically joyful and energising.

But don’t be fooled – the lyrics are actually pretty intense. The artist explains:

“A song with an uplifting production and feeling, but rather dark lyrics: about self loathing and the need to merge into the depths of your sofa to hide from the world for a while. But also: to – in due time – emerge from those depths and take a leap into a new chapter of life again. A song for all us sensitive souls out there.”

Vau has also released an album of the same name today, which you can enjoy here.

New Music: Vau

Vau is an artist and producer emerging from Malmö in Sweden who recently caught our attention with a gorgeous song called ‘Bird You Want To Save’.

The track’s production is a masterclass in lo-fi pop. Despite its dreamy and enchanting soft style of sound, the track speaks of unrequited love, which offers an interesting juxtaposition between the music and the lyrics.

“A song about wanting to be held but not being able to receive it. About looking put-together on the outside while feeling like a broken mess on the inside. The song almost didn’t make the album – until I found a tiny frozen wren outside my studio and nursed it back to health overnight in a pot. The next morning it flew away.”

An upcoming album is scheduled for release later in the summer. Vau’s music has amassed over two million streams to date, which is an impressive feat for a relatively new talent.
