Free Download: The Weeknd ‘House Of Balloons’

Click here to download The Weeknd for free- it’s very good. Lo-fi RNB from an as yet unidentified artist. Drake himself approves.

New Music: Blackroom

Hugely amazing Norwegian electro pop band. Gets my hurt pulsing like mad, and it’s a very sexy video too. Check out here.

New Music: Peter and Kerry

Each primarily a solo artist, Peter and Kerry have joined under the auspices of boutique label Tape Club Records to release ‘Clothes, Friends, Photos’ (out 4 April). Youtube videos of Kerry’s solo tracks came to the attention of Tape Club’s founder, and her subsequent signing to the label brought her into contact with stablemate Peter Lyons. Something of a musical odd couple on paper- she, motivated by influences as eclectic as Erykah Badu and Why?, and him a producer gun for hire with a tendency towards samples and loops- their collaboration took form over a startlingly short few days of sessions in the modest surrounds of Peter’s bedroom. Check out here.

Live: Yelle at Electrowerkz London

I’ve realised that every time I take pictures at these gigs, the more shit they look the more amazing the night was. Yelle‘s on tour right now supporting Katy Perry, but she played at this very random place in London last night. I didn’t know what to expect from Electrowerkz- but the crowd was ultra ‘cool’… i.e. the Shoreditch crowd (Hipsters).

There was a line up of about 5 or 6 acts before she came on, all of which were pretty good but who had the habit of making songs which all ended up sounding the same so I won’t talk about them – all except Tiger Love – who were close to amazing (the pics with the yellow neon lights above).

Anyway, Yelle came on after midnight and the place went nuts. Wherever Yelle plays you can be sure of three things: lots of cool looking people, lots of gays, and everyone dancing their arses off. This drove everyone to go crazy:

but her new stuff is definitely worth listening to also. We left after that so didnt stay around for In Flagranti but if you get to see Yelle live go and do it- you’ll have sore bits around your body the next day! More cacky pics on my Flickr.

Spot the hip hop difference

One’s a huge MC from the UK, the other from Sweden. Both have massive followings and raid the charts in their own countries constantly. Both released albums last year. Both signed to the same label ( I think). Petter and Professor Green.

First Watch: Metronomy ‘The Look’

Check out the new video for ‘The Look’, the next single from Metronomy released in the UK on April 18th.

Free Download: Jon Fratelli ‘Santo Domingo’ (The Knocks remix)

Taken from his forthcoming new album “Psycho Jukebox”, it is at once strangely familiar, lyrically obtuse and so catchy it’ll make your head swim.  It follows the free download of ‘Rhythm Doesn’t Make You A Dancer’.

New Music: Two Wounded Birds

This is a very cool band, with a surf/pop/rock sound. Formed in the late, sultry Summer of 2008, Two Wounded Birds are kids by the sea, making music inspired from the haze of their childhood.  Long drives with Beach Boys compilations in the tape decks.  Dad dropping Chess Records and Link Wray on the record deck of a Sunday morning.  Afternoon showings of Grease on TV. Check out here.

New Music: Emin

So I’ve suddenly seen loads of posters on the Underground this last week advertising this guy. I had no idea who he was, as I hadn’t seen any word of him on the sites that I go on. A bit of research via BBC tells me ‘Emin is the heir to a billion-dollar fortune and the son-in-law of a president. But all he really wants to do is sing.’

Impressive. The music is pretty good pop, I’ll let the BBC give you a good picture of the sound… ‘think Enrique Iglesias and Chris Isaak, with a smattering of pre-Progress Take That – would fit comfortably on the BBC Radio Two playlist.’ Check out here.

New Music: Stooshe

New girl group from London with a very dirty song. I like it though, I don’t know if they’re actually doing this for the long run or whether it’s just one song but whatever, enjoy it! Check out here.

Thomas Holm ‘Lidt for Lidt’

My obsession with Thomas Holm continues. This is his latest single, ‘Lidt for Lidt’ – something to do with being too little, or such… There’s so much good music coming out of Denmark right now, very exciting. I wish people wouldn’t get put off by enjoying music that isn’t in English!

A big box of joy came in the post today

I don’t care- this box made me yelp. It’s cost me a fortune but you can’t put a price on your passion- no matter how camp it can be. This 6 CD box set has pretty much every Melodifestivalen track since the show was launched in it’s current format in 2002. There’s a book that comes with it. I didn’t get a chance to buy this when I was Stockholm last week (when I went to watch the real thing) so I had to order it via import. Just as well- it’s a massive box. This is definitely gonna keep me out of trouble for a few weeks…

Little Majorette release cute new single
