I wait all year to see this list get published. Only because it’s interesting to see how many people have already been featured on here.
The BBC Sound of 2014 is often a predictor of what music acts will launch big in over the next twelve months, and has featured the likes of Adele, Jessie J and 50 cent.
This year’s mix is a lot better than last year’s in my opinion, and is definitely more pop-orientated than previous ‘Sounds of’. Here’s the full list:
The top 5 will be revealed daily starting 6th January 6th 2014, with the winner crowned on the 10th. I’m not putting any guesses on who will win this time round though!
The winner of that big music predictor, the BBC Sound of 2013 has finally been announced as the all-sister group Haim.
While it’s an interesting choice to win, personally I haven’t been much a fan of this band although I did suspect that they would top the poll going by the amount of buzz that’s been going around in the blogosphere.
Having formally predicted the rise of artists such as Jessie J, Adele, 50 Cent and Ellie Goulding, the ‘BBC Sound’ poll is generally seen as one of the more accurate new-music predictors, so it should be interesting to see how Haim pan out over the next year.
What do we think with this new Jessie J track? Hard to believe she was featured here as a new artist just two years ago to the month.
Wireless Festival will be headlined by dance floor maestro Deadmau5, Rihanna and Canadia rap powerhouse Drake this year in London. Also confirmed to play are Nicki Minaj, Jessie J, Example, Professor Green, Rizzle Kicks and more.
The much-anticipated Capital FM Summertime Ball hosted by Capital FM in association with Vodafone takes place at the legendary Wembley Stadium on the 9th of June 2012 with Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Jessie J, The Wanted, Pitbull, Flo Rida, Example, Ed Sheeran, Usher and Kelly Clarkson all on the bill.
Obviously though, it has now sold out. But don’t worry if you haven’t got your ticket yet, Capital FM and Vodafone are delighted to announce the ‘Take Your Seats’ competition.
In the draw there are Golden Circle tickets to the Ball, as well as lots of amazing goodies to be won. To unlock the goodies, all you need to do is scream about the comp on your Facebook and Twitter. The louder you scream, the bigger and better products you unlock.
You could win loads of other really good stuff. Click here to play and take your seat in the virtual Wembley Stadium and good luck!

Right then, this one I’m predicting will blow up big time within the next year. Signed to Lava/Universal (the same label behind Jessie J), and with a random track featuring Lady Gaga titled ‘Luv U Sum’, CJ Holland is being primed to be the next Justin Timberlake (or something). And from experience, knowing how hard it is to currently track a decent picture of this guy, or a decent video tells me there’s some big bucks being thrown around behind the scenes. Which is exciting. Check out here.
Capital FM are taking over Wembley stadium on the 12th June to bring you the Summertime Ball with the biggest artists performing the biggest tracks. J-Lo, Jessie J, LMFAO, The Wanted, Nicole Scherzinger, Katy B, Cee Lo Green, JLS and many other massive acts will all be performing their hits.
Missed out on tickets? Well don’t worry, Capital FM have launched a competition for you and three friends to win the ultimate VIP experience which includes VIP tickets to the ball, An exclusive backstage tour, a night in a 4* London hotel and a road trip to get you from door to door in style.
To enter the competition all you have to do is join the Road Trip and answer daily pop questions to move forward, answer incorrectly you get sent to the back. There will also be secret accelerator codes given out to let you jump forward in the trip. You can check out the competition (and join in!) here.
As predicted, Jessie J’s won the BBC Sound of 2011, meaning the chances of her being huge this year are petty much expected. First featured on ALFITUDE last November. I like her! I like her!
This is always an exciting bit of news every year for me. The ‘BBC Sound’ poll is often the most accurate forecaster for next year’s biggest music acts, having predicted 50 Cent, Corinne Bailey Rae, Mika and Little Boots as ones to watch in the past. Visit the website here for more info. Full list is:
I’ve managed to clock 6 of those in the last year… not bad going if I do say so myself! The top five will be revealed in the week commencing 3 January.
You can just tell this girl is going to be massive when she gets proper promotion. Would she beat Lily Allen in a fight? Probably not, but she’d probably leave a few nasty scratches… Check out here.
