Love disco? You NEED this album!

I was at Fopp (in Covent Garden) earlier today and I had one of those ‘I’m trying super hard not to dance to whatever it is they’re playing on the stereo’ moments, but I gave up and started doing a bit of shuffling around the DVD isle. After overcoming my shyness and asking the hot Fopp person what it was they were playing, I was told it was Disco Discharge: Mondo Disco. There’s some Boney M, Liquid Gold and Space alongside Andy Williams and Passengers. Disco works best when mixed properly, and this is definitely one of the better disco compilations around. None of the super famous numbers, but it’ll make your groove shake.

New Music: Parade

I can be a massive sucker for girl bands (I can’t help it). These ladies could (and probably will) rival The Saturdays very soon- ‘Louder’ is pop perfection. Check out here.

New Music: Fallulah

Already huge in Denmark, Fallulah is some seriously cool pop. This is like some speeded up Lykke Li. Check out here.

New Music: Walk The Moon

Walk The Moon make catchy indie music that sticks in your head for a few hours after playing. I guess they’re a bit like an American version of Hoosiers. ‘Anna Sun’ is pretty fun to listen to. Check out here.

First Listen: The Streets ‘Computers and Blues’ (Album Stream)

Click here to listen to The Street’s final album, ‘Computers and Blues’ in full before it’s release later in the month. It’s excellent. I’ll be sad to see the end of The Streets… until their gig in March!

New Music: Keep Shelly In Athens

Gorgeous low-tempo pop with a perfectly crisp sound. ‘Hauntin’ Me’ is so beautiful. Check out here.

New Music: Jessica Lea Mayfield

This is cool, chill-out country/ indie type music, with a big check to the 90’s. Check out here.

A bit of shameless Swedish pop…

Click here to check out Lena Philipsson’s new single, ‘Idiot’. It’s a really classy bit of pop, very mellow but upbeat at the time. It’s not had great reactions but I like it. If anything, I just love the way she sings ‘Idioot’. I might start saying that now. Lena is a huge pop institution in Sweden by the way, she’s been around for a crazy amount of time, and she’s represented Sweden in Eurovision.

New Music: Smatka

I saw Smatka at a gig in XOYO last week in Shoreditch. I’d never heard of her before but I could see why my mates went a bit nuts when she came on… She puts on a good show- definitely interesting to watch where this talented pop twinkle ends up. Check out here.

New Music: Fitz & The Tantrums

I saw this band on Perez Hilton this evening, I usually don’t agree with his music tastes but this band is awesome. Think Mayer Hawthorne, The Noisettes and some Paloma Faith mixed in a happy jar. Check out here. There’s also a free download of ‘Moneygrabber’ which is really good!

Won’t let the city destroy us

The video to this is already out but I can’t embed it on to this blog. Bugger. But the song’s enough to get you excited about the weekend (even though it’s still Wednesday).

New Music: Strange Talk

This Aussie outfit have had the Kitsuné seal of approval, which means they’re not only super cool but super talented too. Think fast pop with that rock band kinda vibe. Check out here.

Living the dream…

I really like the Looptroop Rockers. I’ve mentioned them before on here, they’re Swedish hip hoppers with impressive things to say. This song makes me happy a little. Be happy yea.

Mashup: Robyn vs Oskar Linnros

This is a mighty little mashup from two of my favourite songs of last year: Robyn’s ‘Dancing On my Own’ and Oskar Linnros’ ‘Från Och Med Du’, which was one of the reasons I decided to throw myself into Swedish school. It’s just a cute mix.

New Music: Shayfer James

Darkly Poetic and theatrically quirky music. Listen to the track below or check out here.

MP3: Shayfer James – Siren Song

New Music: GROUPLOVE

A bit late on catching this one, voted #10 in NME’s best new bands of 2010, I only stumbled across their song ‘Colours’ yesterday. Chirpy, fast rock with a Californian vibe. Check out here.

Live: Morning Parade at Monto Water Rats London

This is probably the most amazingly awesome gig I think I’ve been to since Robyn back in October last year. There’s nothing more exciting than going to see a band you hardly know much about and being blown away by just how powerful they are. Morning Parade are a rough mix between Delphic and Friendly Fires (in my view), but at the same time there’s some serious soul behind the beats. And they’re all hot in their own ways. They’re playing again in the much bigger Scala in June- I seriously recommend you go see them. Seriously.
