New Music: Scout

Scout is a London based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer who has a flair for blending indie with synthpop in the most finessed way you could imagine.

This is a sound that feels familiar yet fresh, with a hugely catchy melody and lyricism that carries a powerful message of tragic nostalgia.

“Its a kind of snapshot of the stage of heartbreak when everything feels like a reminder/ brings up memories of your ex. I guess I like to roll around in the darkness and romanticise for a bit too long because ultimately that’s all thats left of the relationship at that stage and it’s hard to let go, but it’s also the process and the birth place for a lot of relatable music, at least for me.”

New Music: UNDREAM

While still a relatively new talent, Swedish producer UNDREAM has already amassed over 2.5 million streams on Spotify alone from previous releases.

With TIMMS on vocals, ‘Chemical X’ is a dark (almost sinister) sound that feels ambient and atmospheric, formed through a masterfully intricate production that cements UNDREAM’s name as one to watch.

“A lot of the time I get inspired by what I can’t explain with words or something that is out of my understanding. Abstract imagery and unexplainable situations are things that inspire most of my sounds”

New Music: I Know I Know

This is some of the most promising talent that I have come across to emerge from London this week. I Know I Know is the brainchild of prodigious multi-instrumentalist and producer Tommy Hill.

With a stunning blend of alt-rock and indie-pop, ‘Fade Out’ is a melancholic and dreamy mix of hypnotic drum grooves and haunting vocals over an emotive melody.

New Music: YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB

I was immediately captivated by French artist YAOUNDÉBOXINGCLUB’s new single ‘Young’ purely from the lyricism. This is such a beautifully constructed slice of alt-pop that carries so much substance within the words sung.

The 21 year-old talent is not only a singer and songwriter but also a producer and mix engineer. Combined with a skill for writing impactful songs, you can expect to hear a lot more from this magnificent performer.

“‘Young’ is about feeling lost, desperate and demotivated while being told that you got your whole life ahead of yourself and that you’ll never be happier. That is definitely how I felt when I wrote it. I think I needed to hear these words, and I needed to hear them from myself specifically, because when all is crumbling around us the only person we can really rely on is ourselves. Through this song I tell myself that things are going to be fine and that I need to hold on, but I also give myself a reality check and pretty much force myself to acknowledge and even embrace my insecurities and weaknesses.”

New Music: Cohle

Another week, another outstanding Swedish talent to share with you! This time it’s Stockholm-based artist Cohle.

Drawing inspiration from modern-day legends such as Seinabo Sey, NAO and Emilie Nicolas, Cohle creates a refined fusion of dance-pop and RnB, laden with catchy melodies and sleek vocals.

‘Let Me In’ all about waiting too long on someone to make a decision and to get their act together; asking them to communicate their feelings and make their mind up.

New Music: ROWANN

With a refreshingly original approach to indie-pop, Dutch duo ROWANN craft an ambient style of music that blends elements of harp with electric guitar to form a sound like none other.

Full of texture, character and personality, ‘Behind the Borders’ is a song that explores the depths of one’s imagination.

New Music: Xelli Island

LA-based artist, vocalist and songwriter Lianna Vanicelli (who goes by the alias of Xelli Island) is an independent talent who creates some of the most charming bedroom dream-pop you could imagine.

This is a sound that feels emotive and honest, yet still carries a warm and playful essence which is sure to win you over the moment you press play on ‘FLUTTER’.

“This is a song about our strengths and our weaknesses, and realising what parts of yourself need to heal and evolve. I was in a super vulnerable place when writing this. The relationship I was in was falling apart and at this specific point in time, I believed it was entirely my fault so I was frustrated with myself. I wrote the lyrics one night as a way to self-soothe.”

New Music: joe rico

I’m quite excited to share this new American talent with you all. joe rico brings an understated approach to indie-pop that feels subdued and stripped back, yet full of personality and character. ‘Stoked’ is a steady rocker tune that reflects a day in the life of this emerging artist.

“I would say what mainly inspires me to write would be my desire to create. Whether it’s a story or something I show depth in, the writing process is usually the same. This new music is proof to myself that you can have a vision from day one and through that growth and development you can produce something great.”

New Music: Lacuna J

A tremendously exciting new talent hailing from Manchester, Lacuna J is an independent, self-published artist and songwriter. Distinctive vocals compliment a subdued yet powerful pop sound that is both alluring and evocative.

‘Fool (for loving you)’ narrates her perspective as a spectator who is attempting to crack the rose-tinted glasses of a loved one, seemingly too blinded by love to see the danger signs ahead.

“I guess it’s a silent plea for them to figure it out on their own without my interfering but the frustration of also sitting back not wanting to be officious.”

Lacuna J

New Music: Max RM

A melodic fusion of indie and folk from London talent Max RM. Not much is known of this artist yet, other than he’s also a composer for films, spoken word and art installations. Nonetheless, the mystery just adds to the beauty of this sound even more, and I can’t wait to hear what comes out next.

New Music: Tassia Zappia

Sometimes (albeit, very rarely), you listen to new artist sing just a few notes and you instantly know there’s something immensely special about them. I can now say that in April 2021, one of those moments occurred with the discovery of Australian singer-songwriter Tassia Zappia.

A sensationally mesmerising vocal is paired with a classic soul production to give this song an essence of timelessness that is just so magnificent to experience. Watch out for this lady – she’s going to take over the world by storm, mark my words!

“I pour my heartache, the agony and ecstasy into every one of my songs. I’m being very straightforward and saying, ‘This is my life. This is how I feel. I hope you feel the same way.’ When you hear a song where you relate to every lyric, it reminds you somebody else is going through the same things, and it makes the world ten times better. You know you’re not the only person in bed crying about this.”

New Music: WYATT

Hailing from Tulsa (Oklahoma) Wyatt Sanders is no stranger to making hit records; he’s already a platinum-selling talent who’s written and produced for the likes of Diplo, Trippie Redd, and Iann Dior to name a few.

Now releasing solo material under the moniker of WYATT, this phenomenally talented artist has crafted one of the most impressive releases of the week with ‘Me Against You’. A pop song with deep substance, it tells of an on-and-off lover, painting the cycle from chaos to comfort and love after war.
