Joy Downer – SHIPS

One of the most beautiful songs released this week comes courtesy of American starlet Joy Downer.

‘Ships’ is a gorgeously delicate piece of pop music that feels sincere and heartfelt in tone, and lyrically describes a tale of love and misfortune.

“A ballad of unrequited love and poor timing. A delicate vocal with robotic harmonies, steady piano, and that wistful feeling of a love that never was.” – Joy Downer

Downer’s music has consistently impressed us. With her natural flair for songwriting and a finessed style of sound, it’s no wonder that the artist commands more than 45k monthly listeners on Spotify alone.

The inspiration behind ‘I Swear’ originates from a true yet tragic story involving the band’s friends. They explain:

“‘I Swear’ was inspired by friends of ours who have lost their baby after only three weeks. Surviving a tragedy like that while remaining a couple must be one of the hardest things. We can’t begin to imagine the pain. This song is for everyone who has gone through hell together with someone as a team.”

Boston outfit bog berries (led by singer and songwriter Cooper Evello) are somewhat of a musical enigma, but an interesting one nonetheless.

If you’re a fan of artists like Lizzy McAlpine and Darwin Deez then you’ll probably enjoy this collective’s music as well.

New single ‘nobody told me’ was lyrically inspired by the transition into adulthood, and all the monotony that comes along with it. With that being said, this is one of the most charming indie-pop releases we’ve come across this week, and deserves to be on everyone’s playlists!

Keegan Powell – In My Cave

Canadian artist Keegan Powell is back today with an epic new rock single that really is a sonic wonder to experience.

‘In My Cave’ reflects on the musician’s difficult moments in life, and is taken from his freshly released compilation album ‘Alien Radio’ (listen here).

“I wish I could sit that former version of myself down and ask, ‘How can you expect to run if you have forgotten how to breathe?’ It sounds strange, but I had literally forgotten how to breathe and would have panic attacks that would make me pass out from the stress. Alas, the line of depression is a long, long line filled with many great people that stand in it everyday. I don’t think you can ever “leave” these lines behind for good, but eventually, you can find a better line to stand in, in a town with a more reliable meteorologist.”

The song demonstrates Powell’s incredible musical versatility, which has delighted and surprised fans consistently over the years.

Listeners in Canada and the USA can catch Powell performing live on series of shows, with more details here.

Kacey Fifield – Never Reply

Words can’t express how hard we’ve fallen in love with American singer-songwriter Kacey Fifield’s new single, ‘Never Reply’.

The track’s production treats us to a mesmerising fusion of indie- pop and classic rock, while the relatable lyrics tell of the contrasting emotions that we experience when trying to recover from painful emotions.

“This song plays on the idea of claiming to no longer care about a person who hurt me in the past, while making it painfully obvious that I actually care way too much.”

The song was co-written by Michael Kamerman and Sam Beresford, and is taken from Kacey’s forthcoming ‘Nostalgia Haunts Me’ EP. Explaining further, the artist says:

“Channeling the light, beachy vibes of Lorde’s ‘Solar Power’ record, the track creates an almost hauntingly optimistic tone, evoking the feeling of knowing something is too good to be true. The idea that I’ve moved on from this person to the point at which I wish I could go back in time and ‘never reply’ to them is in fact too good to be true, since the rest of the EP showcases the fact that pretending to not feel these emotions only makes them stronger.”

To date, Kacey’s music has been streamed over 6 million times, and currently attracts more than 40k monthly listeners on Spotify alone.

Libby Whitehouse – OMG

Brighton pop artist Libby Whitehouse is here with one of the biggest bops of the week!

‘OMG’ is an anthemic slice of pop bliss that tells of the singer’s desire to meet the perfect man. The song was written and recorded in Sweden, and carries with it that perfected Scandinavian style of production that always hits the spot. Elaborating further on the track, Libby says:

“I wrote this song in 2022 after just landing in Stockholm, getting stuck in knee-deep snow dragging my humongous suitcase to Dino’s [Medanhodzic] studio, where I met him and Maia [Wright] for the first time. I got into a rant about how I missed two things 1) the Summer and 2) the feeling of fancying someone (because absolutely no one was doing it for me!). I remember saying ‘I miss that OMG feeling!’ so we wrote a song about the butterflies, newness and excitement. I feel like it was a manifestation, which worked, as a month later I met my boyfriend!”

Libby already commands a huge following on social media, and looks set to have a stellar year ahead that is sure to see her name propelled into the British music mainstream.

Hailing from the US is promising newcomer Daisybox (aka Taylor Hottenstein). With each single that this musician releases, he finds his fan base growing – thanks to his captivating style of sound which can be described as melancholic pop rock.

Hottenstein began writing music following the death of his brother. The artist realised that songwriting was a meaningful way for him to process his emotions, and facilitate his healing.

‘Someone Else’ is the singer’s latest release, and tells the story of two lovers who are starting to drift way from one another. Hottenstein explains:
