This artist summarises the essence of youth perfectly with the release of ‘all my friends are faded‘ – a song which carries a sense of teen anxiety that could either feel like a relatable experience to you now, or nostalgic one to oldies like me!
A refreshingly original approach to indie-pop by Spanish talent Samuel Petra. This is a track that feels emotive in a very raw and passionate way, without feeling too heavy or dark.

“I generally don’t like sharing too much about my songs, which I think becomes obvious if you listen to the lyrics. So by saying that I guess you can imagine what this song is about. You might think: me, an emotional being with the lack of will to show those emotions to others, would be a bad fit. But I have to say that I like it that way. In a time where all of our lives are so public, it’s nice to have something that is just mine.”
Canadian talent Kayla Diamond brings a refreshingly anthemic approach to music making. Her new single ’50/50′ is a bold, rousing and captivating slice of pop – with hints of soul and gospel added in for good measure.
“Lots of people will hear this song and think it’s just about a spoiled relationship, but to me it’s so much more than that. It’s about recognising that you deserve better than what you’re being given. It’s about removing unwanted toxicity from your life.”
With a bold collection of beats that invoke feelings of melancholy, South London producer Sour Sync crafts a cinematic sound that is dark and intense in essence, yet intimate and emotive.

“Sometimes minimalistic lyrics can evoke the deepest feelings. I think there’s beauty in leaving room to connect your own dots.”
I’ve had ‘Real Life’ on loop for most of the day (literally, no exaggeration). This is a beautifully delicate blend of emotive indie and pop that feels captivating in a very subtle yet moving way.
A beautifully melancholy blend of indie and pop, with some of the deepest, most introspective and moving lyrics that I think I’ve heard so far this year. A genuinely emotive song that reminds you of just how powerful music can be.
Sometimes an artist creates a piece of dream pop that is just so beautifully emotive that it genuinely moves me in an unexpected way. Drew Elliott’s new release, ‘Missing You Now’ is exactly that.
A song that looks at the awkward small talk when you run into an old ex, this song is delicate piece of music that feels delightfully relatable.
“Last summer, I attempted to rekindle a friendship that ended after a breakup a few years ago. I tend to go silent immediately after a relationship ends, to allow space for healing and create a chance to move on, but even after years passed, it felt like a piece of my life was always missing. Not to sound pessimistic, but usually that process of rediscovering a friendship fails, because things can get complicated so easily, so you end up missing your best friend and wondering if they’re missing you. In this case, I’m happy to say she’s a part of my life again. But ‘Missing You Now’ was a result of a first attempt at trying to rekindle that friendship on what felt like a lurking possibility of slipping back into something reminiscent of the past.”
Hailing from the West Midlands, British bedroom-funk newcomers Akande have managed to create a track that feels both melancholy and quirky at the same time.
‘Pink Grapefruit’ is charmingly loveable yet refreshingly original. Be warned that you’ll probably have this song on loop for a good while…
“This song is inspired by a Golden Grapefruit which tasted really bad, at that point I realised it was Pink Grapefruit I was looking for. This relates to a relationship where she realises that I was Golden Grapefruit.”

As far as British talent goes, Chloe Rodgers is one of the most promising new starlets of the moment. With recognition from tastemakers like Notion, The Line of Best Fit and Refinery 29, Rodgers is set on making a big impact in 2021.
The release of ‘Coins For Charon’ is alt-pop at it’s finest. Subtly emotive yet powerfully captivating, this is a beautifully melodic piece of music that is sure to make Rodgers your new obsession.
“‘Coins for Charon’ was written by Anders Källmark and Nick van Hofwegan, AKA Young & Sick.. It’s about losing someone you love. I do like the track. The dynamic change and percussion in the chorus was a good call, and the drummer (Giovanni Velez), is a genius.”
