Jack Garratt

Well this has come as no surprise! Jack Garratt has won the BBC Sound of 2016 poll – one of pop’s most accurate predictors of who’s to become huge over the coming year.

I love Jack Garratt, so I’m quite pleased to see him top the poll. Overall it seems that 2016 will see a resurgence in soul-pop.

Oh and just a brag… I featured Jack back in February 2014!

Alessia Cara is runner up on the the BBC Sound of 2016 poll

Alessia Cara is the runner up in this year’s BBC Sound of 2016 poll. It’s a raw, understated soul sound which is quite bold in it’s own way.

Tomorrow we will discover the winner!

NAO comes 3rd in the BBC Sound of 2016 poll

Now then – here’s an act I’m not shocked to see in the shortlist! NAO comes third in this year’s BBC Sound of 2016 poll. Insatiable electro soul that’s just too good to ignore.

Tomorrow the runner up is revealed.

Blossoms come 4th in the BBC Sound of 2016 poll

Well… I didn’t Blossoms to reach the shortlist but I’m happy anyway – it’s so nice to see some psych-pop on the radar again.

Tomorrow we’ll find out who’s come third.

Mura Masa and WSTRN are joint 5th in the BBC Sound of 2016 poll

Two very different acts but both have come 5th for the BBC’s Sound of 2016.

Personally, I didn’t expect either to rank in the top 5 but the diversity between these two show that this could be an interesting year.

We’ll find out who’s come in fourth place tomorrow.

BBC Sound of 2016 longlist revealed!

The BBC Sound Of poll is one of the biggest and most accurate music surveys to find next year’s breakout star. Previous winners have included Years & Years, Adele, Sam Smith and 50 Cent.

I’m so happy to see that 2016 has a very strong line up with pop and grime genres taking the lead.

As is becoming usual (not that I’m one for gloating), the majority were featured on Alfitude a long while ago…

My bet is for Jack Garratt to win, with Dua Lipa, NAO and Frances and Alessia Cara to finish the top 5.

The shortlist is revealed at the start of January, with the winner announced on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show on 8 January 2016.
