New Music: DSL

DSL come from the Ed Banger roster of amazing French electro. I think the video is probably one of the best this year. Check out here.

New Music: Housse de Racket

French indie electro rock type sound. They caused a stir back in 2008 with their hit ‘Oh Yeah’ but this is their proper introduction to the world. It makes a change from the usual funky cheeky happy electro sound coming out of France at the moment (although that is excellent too). Check out here.

The return of French House… Welcome back SebastiAn!

Let it be known that I think French House is one of the best genres of music that I’ve ever let myself listen to. It’s defined so many big moments in my life, and for that I’ll hold it to my heart like the rockers do to the Rolling Stones or the hippies do to Jimmy Hendrix. For me, Daft Punk, Cassius, Justice, Air, DJ Mehdi, etc remind me of what it felt like to be a reckless hot mess stumbling through school and uni. Anyway, one of the newer kids on the block, SebastiAn, has carved a reputation for himself by making dirty funky remixes like this:

His debut album is due to hit shops at the end of the month, and I for one am very excited about it all. This is one of the tracks set to be on the record, and it features ‘it-boy’ of the moment, Mayer Hawthorne. It’s just so sexy (sounds a bit like Prince’s ‘Kiss’ on foreplay), and I feel like in a year’s time this is what pop songs will sound like:

There’s also a track with M.I.A. although I sadly don’t care much for her. But I know her contribution will be amazing. If you love this style of music like I do, check out Ed Banger’s roster of artists (of which SebastiAn belongs to).

Live: Yelle at Electrowerkz London

I’ve realised that every time I take pictures at these gigs, the more shit they look the more amazing the night was. Yelle‘s on tour right now supporting Katy Perry, but she played at this very random place in London last night. I didn’t know what to expect from Electrowerkz- but the crowd was ultra ‘cool’… i.e. the Shoreditch crowd (Hipsters).

There was a line up of about 5 or 6 acts before she came on, all of which were pretty good but who had the habit of making songs which all ended up sounding the same so I won’t talk about them – all except Tiger Love – who were close to amazing (the pics with the yellow neon lights above).

Anyway, Yelle came on after midnight and the place went nuts. Wherever Yelle plays you can be sure of three things: lots of cool looking people, lots of gays, and everyone dancing their arses off. This drove everyone to go crazy:

but her new stuff is definitely worth listening to also. We left after that so didnt stay around for In Flagranti but if you get to see Yelle live go and do it- you’ll have sore bits around your body the next day! More cacky pics on my Flickr.
