New Music: Tyler Page

by  Kyle Kemink

Hailing from Cape Town, 19-year old Tyler Page is one of the most exciting talents to emerge from South Africa so far this year.

A distinctively velvety vocal delivers captivating lyricism over a production that features a deep bass with 80’s style synths. A really outstanding song, by an equally impressive artist.

“kill all the heroes” is definitely one of my favourites. It resonates with the zeitgeist and especially with the youth of today. We should be looking up to our leaders and elders for guidance and a prosperous future, but instead we have been disillusioned by their obvious obsession with greed, power and wealth. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer while we the youth are being robbed of our future. Some of these self-acclaimed “heroes” are actually real life villains destroying the planet and our health and wellbeing just to make a buck. Accumulating wealth seems to be the sole drive behind decisions made for us by the ones in charge.”

New Music: SABRINA

Firstly, I hope you all join me in wishing SABRINA a happy birthday today! Releasing your song on a big day like that must feel pretty awesome.

This UK-based electronic pop artist has a style of music-making that exudes confidence and energy. ‘Drive’ is an empowering kind of track that celebrates the natural end of a relationship that hit one too many potholes along the way.

“This song is all about being confident in your decisions. It’s not a sad love song. It’s knowing you weren’t right for that other person.”

New Music: The Satellite Station

The Satellite Station is the moniker of singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Travis Rue.

With a sound that fuses indie-pop with folk in the most exquisite way, this talent creates songs through his perspective on life, and the challenges and joys of being human.

A feeling most of us are familiar with, ‘Chain Reaction’ is a song that’s all about the weight of the silence at the end of a relationship.

New Music: CLAVVS

Hailing from New York, CLAVVS are a duo who are fixated on one thing– finding joy in little moments.

And that sentiment is reflected in their sound, which seamlessly blends indie-pop with electronica to create a sense of hopefulness and new beginnings.

“These songs and videos are just me trying to get back to myself, to who I was as a child. There’s something really healing in playfulness and joy.” – Amber, CLAVVS

Taken from the forthcoming album ‘O’, which is due out on 29th July 2021.

“We write songs out of our own necessity.”

New Music: moony

Seth Findley, better known as moony is a Nashville-based artist who’s creating some of the most interesting blends of indie and alt-rock that I have come across so far this month.

‘angry’ is an exploration of the beginning of the end of a committed relationship and the feelings of confusion, chaos, and anger that come alongside it.

“’As with any long-term serious bond with someone, we pick up baggage along the way be it for better or worse. We may look back with gratitude or resentment and while I’m so grateful for the ways I grew and changed because of the relationship, resentment is what I explored in this song. I lost the essence of who I was.”

Seth is also frontman with the band Honest Men, who have achieved over 9.5 million Spotify streams to date.

Taken from the new EP ‘moon’ which is out now.

New Music: Sam Addeo

A dreamy indie-pop sound with a playful undertone gives ‘Something 4 U’ a feel of what a modern love song should be like. This is the kind of sound that immediately makes you fall in love with up and coming Brooklyn-based artist Sam Addeo.

“[The song] was actually one of the first songs that I wrote that made me think ‘maybe I should start putting out music’ – and I’m so glad to finally be doing so three years later with the fam at Biyo and an amazing crew of friends, family, and creatives.”

New Music: Lone Waves

One of the best slices of summery indie-pop you’ll likely listen to all week, ‘Daylight’ is an anthemic track that’s all about living in the moment and not letting life pass you by.

Hailing from Nashville, Lone Waves are a new project comprising of Lonas (Louis Johnson) and Super Duper (Josh Hawkins). After working together on several different projects, the two are now pursuing a new direction without any limitations, and the results so far are pretty fantastic!

New Music: Yaielle Golden

A master of many talents, upcoming independent vocalist Yaielle Golden is also a producer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter.

Make-Believe’ is a love ballad that is reminiscent of childhood memories of love and affection. It’s a sleek and finessed blend of RnB and hip hop, coated with smooth vocals and intelligent lyricism.

New Music: Ronnie Watts

Rising from the suburbs of Rochester in New York, Ronnie Watts is a talent who’s voice is immediately captivating to any listener who plays her songs.

‘car ride home’ is an ode to those unreciprocated feelings and mixed signals that leave your head spinning, and your heart confused.

“The song really came together for me when I wrote the lyric ‘things are prettier from farther away’. Especially with social media, it’s really easy to romanticise people and make up whatever about them to fit what you want. Everything seems way prettier when people only see the surface of your life, and not the cracks underneath.”

New Music: Camylio

Track of the week. Already a talent with a significant online fandom (over 3.2 million TikTok followers alone), Camylio will undeniably hit the mainstream very rapidly.

And yet, this artist’s musicianship is impressive on it’s own standing. Raw and emotive vocals compliment a classic production that sets the tone for a hugely emotional song.

“When you’re in a relationship, you share music and playlists. As soon as everything goes wrong and falls apart, you can’t even listen to the songs associated with that person anymore. You’ve broken up, and you’re trying to get yourself together. You’re attempting to move on and put the pieces back together. However, all you can fixate on is if your ex is going through something similar.”

New Music: thom.ko

LA-based indie-pop talent thom.ko creates a kind of music that is near impossible not to enjoy and fall in love with. Listening to new single ‘Goodbye’ gives the listener equal doses of fun, playfulness and charm.

New Music: SARAS

A fantastically catchy slice of electro-pop that will fill you with a desire to go out and dance the night away. If you’ve got your summer playlists set up, be sure to add ‘Don’t Say It’ immediately!

“This song is about the silent agreement between exes to not get back together. It’ll feel good for a moment and then you’ll be right back where you started so why even bother? Let’s just not. I wrote it after a breakup, imaging a scenario when we run into each other in the future. The chemistry’s still there. We still make each other laugh. But the relationship is fractured and one wrong turn, and I’ll end up running back into his arms because the good parts of love are intoxicating.”

Watch out for the EP, coming out later in the fall.

New Music: Bradley Denniston

LA artist Bradley Denniston is one of those talents who’s already had an incredibly impressive career to date, yet you may never have heard of.

As a head engineer, composer and music producer, Denniston has worked on projects that have consequently gone on to achieve Grammy, Oscar and Emmy nominations. Today he releases solo single ’15 Minutes To Midnight’, and it’s a nostalgic blend of alt-pop and disco that is infectiously memorable.

“It’s all about that feeling of being out with someone that you have a thing for but they just don’t know it… Dancing all night long, drinking and having a moment when there’s a bit of hope that your crush might just be giving you a chance. Those close encounters where you want to tell them how you really feel about them and the moment is so close but also that window of opportunity is slipping away fast.”

Bradley Denniston

New Music: cudos

Hailing from New York, cudos are a jazzy dance-pop duo who blend upbeat sounds with sad Gen-Z vibes to create a sound that is not only distinctly unique but also totally relatable.

“‘FeelSad’ started out as a beat that we made last year in March. We created it when we were both feeling sort of down about certain relationships within our respective lives. We sat on the idea for about five or so months and then started shopping it around. We then linked up with Jake and wrote to it over zoom. It only took one session and it came out great. We then went back and forth on production and minor vocal edits and it eventually became what it is today.”

Taken from the debut EP ‘Extra-Curriculars’ which is out now.

New Music: Carson James Argenna

I reckon this is probably the sweetest-sounding pop release of the week. New York artist Carson James Argenna’s ‘Pride First’ is an infectiously catchy bop that feels emotive in the most charming way.

“My songwriting began when I was 15 and I’m really only just now starting to share some of the music I’ve written over the years. My style focuses heavily on melody and lyrics and I mostly work with other producers to bring it all to life.”

Carson James Argenna

New Music: Sophie Hunter

American talent Sophie Hunter has created an emo-trap banger through ‘Ketamine Breakfast’ that commands to be heard, featuring exceptional lyricism that is not only honest but captivating to listen to.

“During COVID I got addicted to ketamine and ended up losing my most important friendships. With no one left to turn to, I said f*** it and went to a studio for the first time. I’ve been clean ever since. Making music has been turning my life around, day by day – this song is a dispatch from the darkest depths.”
