For someone who grew up in Sudan, I was well aware of Nigerian disco’s impact on African music. Fast forward to Frank Ocean rediscovering Steve Monite’s ‘Only You’, to now hearing this fabulous cover by Theophilus London and Tame Impala… Excellent!
Truth be told though, none match up to the original, which was so ahead of it’s time that it still feels current right now… Give it a spin here.

Performed in it’s entirety in a church, this cover of Frank Ocean’s ‘Bad Religion’ by Alex Collier and the Jingle Punks Orchestra is something pretty special.
AlunaGeorge put their own spin on Frank Ocean‘s ‘Thinkin Bout You’ for BBC Radio 1Xtra last week and it just sounds epic and cute and sexy all at the same time.
This remix of Frank Ocean’s ‘Pink Matter’ by OutKast’s Big Boi and Andre 3000 is pretty special.
Pyramids has to be one of the biggest tracks to come out of 2012, and the remixes have not been in shortage. Im drawn to this one by DJ Apt One though- it brings a bit of a house disco vibe.
This is by Alex Saidac, a name that’s starting to get some good buzz in the Swedish pop world. Not what I would have expected from a Frank Ocean song, but it’s nice.
Im a bit surprised by this actually, much as I like Frank Ocean and admire his talent, I don’t know how much of an impact he’ll make, I guess we’ll see. Winner is announced tomorrow. Who do you reckon it’ll be? Hmmm… Hmmmmmm… *cough* Lana Del Rey *cough*
Not to sound sad but this is one of my favourite moments of the year- when the BBC Sound of 2012 list is revealed. If you are unaware of how important this list of musicians is, check out the same list from 2011 and see how many predictions are household names now. This list is a big, big deal- so get used to the names this year because you’ll be hearing from them a lot in the next twelve months. The list is compiled by music bigshots.
