Annalise Azadian – Life of the Party

One of the stand-out pop releases from the last week, ‘Life of the Party’ takes Annalise Azadian’s deliciously melancholic vocals and lays them over textured 90’s inspired dance beats to create a song that feels nostalgic yet future-forward.

“I secretly hate parties. Being an artist is all about putting yourself out there, yet I tend to find myself being the wallflower in crowded rooms. I sometimes wonder if this makes people gravitate towards me even more, hence the ‘All eyes on me’ lyric; it had a feel-good vibe with an emotional theme. When Swagg [producer] got involved, he loved the reference, and added his twist on it with a whole new energy and vibe to become more of a summer anthem, party song – especially with the world beginning to open back up. The song started as a soulful hook about standing out but not necessarily enjoying that limelight, whether in day-to-day life or, in this case, a party.”

New Music: WORRYWORRY

Working with the iconic Method Records (Sam Smith, slowthai), West London artist WORRYWORRY is bracing himself to become one of the UK’s next big names.

Co-written by Alfitude favourite Matt Maltese, ‘Miserable’ is a powerful and melancholic piece of music that shows how pop can sometimes be incredibly emotive in the purest of ways.

“Not many of my songs make me wanna cry when I listen to them, but this is one of them. Matt Maltese adds his emotional flair into the songwriting mixture. I’ve always been able to connect with his lyrics and melodies on a deeply emotional level and so it was an honour to have him be a part of this one. We both write sad songs; put us together and you get Miserable.”

Elujay – Frequently

Photo /  Justin Dakdouk

Hailing from Oakland in California, the multi-talented singer, songwriter, producer and director that is Elujay marks a stunning return in the form of genre-fluid new offering, ‘Frequently’.

“‘Frequently’ is a carefree black joy anthem about obtaining wealth in a currency, energy  and love sense. It was made in the midst of the pandemic when people were deprived of financial means, social interactions and mental clarity. People around me were thinking of many money schemes or ways to acquire quick amounts of cash . My friends got me invested in the stock-market and crypto currency, and it was just a record inspired by that kind of energy. The energy is also stemmed from breaking bread with your family and loved ones while  seeing everyone around you prosper. I hope frequently is a jam people can run back this summer. (Especially at the BBQ).”

HUSSY – New Fair

South London-based multi-instrumentalist and producer HUSSY is back with another magnificent blend of indie-pop and alt-rock in the shape of new single ‘New Fair’.

“‘New Fair’ was very much a verbal vomit of subconsciousness song but ultimately is kind of about how you can’t always tell what’s on the other side of a situation. And how often you need to push past difficulty to get somewhere fruitful. That’s where the line ‘drag my body, it makes it worthy’ is coming from.”

Taken from the self-made, self-titled debut EP which is set for release on 23rd July 2021 via Rock Hag.

New Music: CHUALA

Track of the week. Best played exceptionally loud, ‘wake up!’ is a hugely exciting release from CHUALA, a left-field experimental artist who instills powerful lyricism into electronic sounds that immediately captivate and entrance you.

This track encourages the listener to share awareness over their hectic schedules by processing mental health, and indicating the importance of living in the moment.

“While ‘wake up!’ is also a kind of turn up song, it’s mostly a criticism to this idea, that all that matters is how much money you make, even if it means you never have time for anything else. a lot of us have totally submitted to a workaholic lifestyle and we wanna ‘out-busy’ each other. I felt very cynical when writing this song and chose the repetition in the lyrics to showcase the repetitive routines many people follow until they die.”
