ROREY – Mirror

Despite featuring ROREY only a few weeks ago, we obviously can’t get enough of this promising starlet as we’ve had to share more of her music with you today!

‘Mirror’ is a deliciously sinister-sounding piece of music that seamlessly incorporates indie-rock with dark pop.

Inspired by the concept of self-sabotage, the track serves as a taster to ROREY’s highly anticipated ‘Apt 7D’ debut EP , which has just been released.

‘Apt 7D’ was created alongside acclaimed artist and producer Blonder, and is sonically constructed around themes of 90’s grunge, indie and rock.

Praise for ROREY comes from industry heavyweights like Zane Lowe, as well as leading publications such as Notion and Clash magazines.

New Music: VeeAlwaysHere

LA-based Siberian Russian musician VeeAlwaysHere is a rising singer, songwriter and producer who has been gaining steady momentum in recent months.

‘joker’ is taken from the artist’s forthcoming ‘broken: playlist II’ album (out soon), and showcases a finessed alternative-R&B sound that is not only powerfully emotive but also deeply captivating to experience.

ā€œAcceptance is the hardest part, and the biggest struggle in this song. When you know it’s doomed and it’s better to just walk away, but the comfort and the familiarity are keeping you from moving on. ‘Life is a movie and you play the lead. I’m trying to see if there’s a role for me’ – this feels like her story and not mine. ‘You played the joker, while I played myself’ – she set everything up the way she wanted, and I fell for it and ended up just lying to myself, but somehow ‘I can’t seem to let it go.’ It’s a mystery even to me.ā€

VeeAlwaysHere has picked up praise from established outlets like MTV,Ā Billboard and Consequence of Sound, while his songs have been streamed more than 250k time so far.

If you’ve fallen in love with this talent as much as we have, then be sure to check out his 2022 album ‘ego: playlist 1’ here.

WUKASA – Party People

Scottish alt-pop group WUKASA unveil their latest single today, called ‘Party People’.

Through its balanced mix of synth-infused electronic pop and alternative R&B, the track delivers an understated yet uplifting style of sound that is rich in character and sonic texture. Elaborating further on the song’s lyricism, the band explain:

“The lyrics of the song characterise that person we have all wanted to be at some point in our lives. The one in charge. The one in total control. It makes no apologies, it knows it’s the best, and it does not care what anyone thinks. The song demands that you ‘own it’, no matter how bad things get.”

WUKASA’s popularity continues to rise with each release. Recently, they were featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday UK and Hot New Bands playlists, while their previous single, ‘California’ (listen here) was crowned as BBC Introducing’s Track of the Week.

Fans can look forward to an upcoming EP, which is scheduled for release later this year. WUKASA will also perform a concert in their hometown of Edinburgh in November.

New Music: ALBI.

ALBI. is rapidly carving a name for herself as one of Australia’s most exciting electronic-pop prospects.

While this Brisbane-based musician only debuted last winter, she has already built up a steady fanbase across social media and accumulated thousands of streams from just three singles.

‘LVR GRL’ is the artist’s latest release, and perfectly balances dance-pop with elements of nostalgic garage and drum’n’bass. Elaborating on the track’s lyricism, ALBI. explains:

ā€œI got tired of the dead end relationships and pouring my love into broken cups so I wrote this song as a reminder to never settle for less than the love I now know I deserve. The lesson is no ā€˜LVR GRL’ treatment for people that show bum behaviour and embrace the fact you can love yourself enough to set boundaries that support this. If the message resonates with you, remember you are more than deserving of the love you give to others but never settle because nothing is more important than the love you give to yourself first. Class dismissed.ā€

With support from respected industry tastemakers like Triple J, DNü and DMY, as well as featured spots on prominent flagship Spotify playlists, ALBI, is well on her way to becoming a star.

VILLFORTH – Aquamarine

German pop starlet VILLFORTH returns with one of the sweetest queer anthems for the summer ahead.

‘Aquamarine’ was inspired by the artist’s bisexuality, and the feelings that began to arise when she realised that she was harbouring feelings for a friend.

“She’s so cool and I’m on the edge, too scared that she won’t like me back”

Alongside its charming lyrics, the song also showcases a beautifully balanced production that fuses dreamy pop with hints of indie.

The track follows on from VILLFORTH’s acclaimed ‘Shouldn’t This Feel Easy?’ EP (listen here), which has already garnered more than 700 cumulative streams.

Keep this talent on your radars – VILLFORTH is most definitely one name to watch for.

EMM – Delilah

Vocalist, songwriter, producer and all-round pop icon EMM is back with a huge new single that demands your attention!

‘Delilah’ was inspired by particular scene from the 2005 film ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman‘, in which an ex -wife ends up caring for her abusive husband after he was paralysed.

“The story of Delilah is a bible story where a woman uses her power to drain a man of his strength. I saw a TikTok that said ‘most men would leave immediately if they were treated as poorly as women are often treated, and women are far more likely to stay.’ That really inspired the lyrics ‘Show no mercy…he would do the same’.”

In recent years, EMM has grown her creative empire into a seven-figure business which allows her to self-fund all of her work.

Having amassed more than 100 million career streams independently, its clear that EMM is on her way to global pop domination.

You can catch EMM at The Roxy in Los Angeles on the 12th July – tickets can be found here.

New Music: Black Hat

Mysterious American outfit Black Hat are one of the more interesting discoveries that we’ve come across this week.

This band’s style of sound is really quite distinct. On the one hand, it’s cinematic, bold and epic, while on the other it’s eccentric, playful and psychedelic in character.

Songs like ‘Nite Tripper’ make an immediate impact upon the moment that you press play, and demonstrate the band’s flair for creating experimental sounds that are both gripping and intriguing.

An upcoming album is scheduled for release in October. In the meantime, be sure to immerse yourselves in their previous releases here.

New Music: Tinsley

Photo / Will Harvey

Singer and songwriter Tinsley might just become one your new favourite indie-pop musicians.

Melodic new single ‘Just Three Words’ was inspired by a dilemma that most of us have experienced at some point in life – that is, when do you tell someone that you love them?

“Few words hold more weight than ‘I love you.’ Is it better to wait until the other person says it first or face the potential rejection of hearing nothing but the dreaded ‘thanks’ in return?”

Alongside it’s relatable lyricism, the song’s catchy melody and impressive pop production (by Timothy Robert Graham) tells us that this is a summer hit in the making.

Fans in Seattle can catch Tinsley on the 18th August at Barboza – details and tickets can be found here. The artist will also be releasing a new EP called ‘Love Songs’ on the same day.

Tastemaker praise for Tinsley comes from the likes of Atwood Magazine, Pop Passion Blog and This Song Is Sick.

New Music: GAZAL

Hailing from Australia is Lebanese newcomer GAZAL, who has just unveiled one of the most impressive alt-pop releases of the week.

‘Skeletons’ was written as a commentary on the pressures and expectations that society places on women – and the consequent pressures that happen as a result.

Accentuating the song’s powerful lyricism is the production, which showcases a style of sound that feels bold, abrasive and dark, yet still maintains a distinct pop sensibility.

You can catch GAZAL performing at Cultivate in Sydney on the 14th July – tickets and details can be found here.

New Music: Insincere

Insincere is an emerging UK-based trio consisting of artists and musicians Grace, Orlando and Alex.

The group has already been building momentum for quite some time now, with one track even going viral (2022’s ‘Angels Don’t F**k”).

Today’s release of new single ‘halo’ is likely to propel Insincere further into the mainstream, thanks to its thoughtfully constructed mix of indie-pop and melodic alternative hip hop. Elaborating further on the song’s meaning, they explain:

ā€œIt’s not often we write bright and happy songs but ‘halo’ is an exception to that. ā€œthreeĀ blind mice with visionā€ felt like the perfect descriptor of our state. Self-doubting yet confident, a sort of calm within anxiety, blind but with a vision.”

ā€œWe think people hold true to those oxymorons, people our age at least. We’re a ‘we rule the world but cry in our bedroom at night’ generation. We find it easier to express the pain in life but expressing the pride of being yourself is just as important and that’s what ā€˜halo’ is. The song sounds like a summer celebration: a celebration of brighter days and of self-belief. It’s a playful song made with smiles on our faces with the intention to put one on yours.ā€

Insincere will be touring the festival circuit this summer, so be sure to follow their socials for more updates.

SANDY + Myra Molloy – Tear Me Up

Myra Molloy

It might still be Wednesday but we’re already in weekend-mode thanks to this new collaboration from acclaimed producer SANDY and emerging Thai-American artist Myra Molloy.

‘Tear Me Up’ presents listeners with a playful yet emotional fusion of alternative pop and electronica. Speaking on the song’s creation, SANDY says:

ā€œMyra and I wrote this song during Grammy week in LA, feeling the social pressure and clout of going to the “cool” afterparties, but not being invited. ā€˜Tear Me Up’ is about battling with an unhealthy internal dialogue, self-confidence issues and FOMO. It speaks of the mental space we often live in as artists, especially in an industry that often values image over music, where being seen in the right scene feels like what it’s all aboutā€¦ā€ – SANDY

To date, SANDY has produced songs for the likes ofĀ Tei Shi and BEL, and collaborated with industry icons as noted as Max Martin, Kid Harpoon and Two Inch Punch.

Meanwhile, Myra Molloy is fast building a name for herself as a multi-hyphenate who is not only a rising musician (currently commanding more than 40k monthly listeners on Spotify alone), but also as a producer, songwriter and actress.

Kimani – Lose You

One of the most powerful songs released this week comes courtesy of emerging London artist Kimani (aka Stefan Morgan).

Despite its minimal and stripped-back sound, ‘Lose You’ is a gripping and deeply emotive piece of melancholic R&B. Alongside its haunting production, the track’s raw lyricism defines the feelings of anxiety and insecurity that occur when we become attached to someone.

“I, just don’t know what to say to you
I, find it so hard, just replacing you
And I, I just don’t know where I’d rather be
‘Cause when I lost you, I lost the you in me”

Kimani’s momentum has been on a steady rise for quite some time. With support from the likes of BBC Introducing, as well as several features on flagship Spotify playlists, this is one British-based artist to keep on your radars.

New Music: Astral Bakers

French four-piece Astral Bakers make their first appearance on our pages with a stunning new single, entitled ‘One More’.

While all the members of this outfit are accomplished musicians in their own right (collectively working with the likes of Woodkid and Pomme), this is the first time that Sage, Theodora, Nico Lockhart and ZoƩ Hochber have joined forces under one project.

‘One More’ presents listeners with a sublime indie rock sound that feels organic, emotional and sincere in tone.
