Graham Lake – Run em Down (feat. Avelino)

Track of the week. Emerging Swedish newcomer Graham Lake joins forces with UK rap star Avelino on the release of massive new single ‘Run em Down’.

The Stockholm-born singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist presents a sleek production on the track as he threads clean guitar through energetic synths, serving listeners with a sound that is immediately captivating and hugely exciting.

“‘Run em Down’ was made during a part of my life when many people influenced my decisions, dreams, and ambitions. My music was the thing keeping me grounded and this song came to be my freeing from all those attachments. ‘FOCUS’ came to life quickly but ’Run em Down’ was even quicker. That proved to me that I was on the right track and that this song was meant to be the follow-up. I never intend to speak on what my song’s true meaning is because it’s different for everybody but to me, it’s a celebration of knowing what you deserve and that nothing besides yourself can stop you from reaching that.”

This artist creates music that is stunningly finessed, beautifully melodic and timeless in concept.

New Music: Erica Manzoli

Track of the week. One of the most exciting newcomers to emerge from the UK over the last few months, London-based singer, songwriter and musician Erica Manzoli crafts beautifully melodic pop sounds that carry honest and raw lyricism.

‘My Best Friend Is My Therapist’ was written during lockdown, and narrates the feelings of disconnect that were suffered during the pandemic.

“This song explores feelings of loneliness and the irony that connecting virtually disconnects you from reality. I’d lost all contact with my friends during lockdown and the only person I was speaking to on a regular basis was my therapist via Zoom. Being in your house for months and trying to navigate things like love and friendships entirely through our phones is extremely difficult and tiring. You can’t ‘read the room’ when you’re not physically in the room and although screen time often makes you feel worse, if you stop using them then it’s easy to lose contact with the outside world completely.”

Track of the week. ‘iwoulddoanythingforyou’ came up on my Spotify randomly over the weekend, and I have been obsessed with the song ever since. This is likely to be my favourite release from a newcomer to date this year, thanks to its immersive and atmospheric tones.

The artist behind the song is elusive; all I know is that this is a producer, writer and singer from Boston who is currently based in LA. Somehow, I don’t think it will be long before we discover more about this huge talent.

Nix Northwest – Satan Doesn’t Swim

Track of the week. London based rapper, producer and multi-instrumentalist Nix Northwest has crafted a sound through ‘Satan Doesn’t Swim’ that seamlessly blends current sounds with elements of bossa nova, samba, Brazilian folk and nostalgic jazz tones.

“The song is about letting go of the fears, temptations and ego that restrict us in truly finding acceptance and love within ourselves. The song also evokes a sense of the bittersweet, as Xin [fictional character trying to navigate an escape from his town] has had to leave behind his home city along with a lot of his friends and family in order to achieve this mental freedom.”

Taken from the upcoming debut album ‘Xin’s Disappearance’ out soon.

Celine Love – Good Girl

Track of the week. Hamburg born and London based singer-songwriter Celine Love shares her stunning new single ‘Good Girl’. This is a melodic piece of indie-R&B perfection that is nothing short of pure bliss to experience.

Celine recorded the vocals at home in her closet and her dad recorded the bass virtually, giving the track an endearing charm thats perfectly compliments the lyrics.

“The inspiration behind this song was my desire to shed the ‘Good Girl’ image that has been almost imposed on me by my family, and in turn I always felt that’s the way I needed to be in order to be accepted. I’ve always been afraid of being judged, but this year has been a huge journey of self-love and growth and coming to terms with the fact that sometimes I’m not at my best – and that’s ok. I am an overthinking, people-pleasing, stubborn, either emotionally unavailable or far too available Aquarius and needed to own that!”

Taken from the upcoming debut EP ‘Aquarius SZN’ which is out on 16th February 2022.

New Music: Harry Stone

Track of the week. Harry Stone’s ‘Daydreaming’ has been on repeat for most of the weekend, purely based on its finessed and hypnotic twist on soul-pop.

Atmospheric and full of movement, the song is about the challenge to connect (least of all, dating in a pandemic) and ultimately how not to lose yourself around someone new.

“A song about personal space. I’m more emotional than I’d like to admit, which didn’t help me get a read on a situation where I could have protected my energy a little better. When I hear the track it reminds me how you never actually know you’re dreaming until you snap out of it.”

WIINSTON – blood moon

Track of the week. Danish outfit WIINSTON has been on my radar for a good few years – and yet still they continue to surprise and impress with their releases.

‘blood moon’ is an immediately arresting piece of melodic alt-R&B that feels richly atmospheric and beautifully raw in tone.

WIINSTON is made up of producer/songwriter Alfred Thomas and singer/songwriter Daniel Richards; two longtime friends who write, record, and produce most of their music in Thomas’s one-room apartment. The duo rarely invite other musicians into their sessions – favouring one-on-one collaboration instead.

New Music: Lauren Spencer-Smith

Track of the week. Still only 18-years old and already somewhat of a social media star (with significant followers across TikTok and Instagram), Lauren Spencer-Smith is picking up phenomenal momentum with ‘Fingers Crossed’.

This is pop at it’s purest and most effective, with a simple melody laying the foundations for Spencer-Smith’s impressive vocals to shine through.

DJ Lag + Sinjin Hawke – Raptor

Track of the week. One of the most impressive collaborations in recent weeks has to be this outstanding composition between DJ Lag and Canadian-American electronic music producer Sinjin Hawke.

‘Raptor’ is a dramatically epic piece that brings together DJ Lag’s minimal and percussive-heavy style of sound with Hawke’s genius for relaying elements of grandeur and melody through an eclectic approach to producing.

“There’s something special about the way Lag uses drums, they’re so tough and epic yet minimal and spacious at the same time.” – Sinjin Hawke

Taken from DJ Lag’s debut album ‘Meeting with the King’, out 18th February 2022.

New Music: GERD

Track of the week. A true breakout star, Swedish artist GERD has caused quite the stir since ‘Lies For A Liar’ was debuted by Zane Lowe on Apple Music Radio 1 last month.

The consequent release of the video picked up over 65k views in just over two days, and the momentum doesn’t seem to be stopping. This could well be one of the Nordic region’s newest sensations to watch out for.

New Music: Doublethink

Track of the week. It’s an almost impossible task to create music that is boldly experimental while still maintaining an approachable and relatable aspect for listeners.

And yet, anonymous NYC duo Doublethink have effortlessly overcome this – creating one of the most captivating songs of the month. ‘I Find God’ gives us a glimpse of what the future of pop could be like, and I am already hooked.

New Music: SUNSET 18

Track of the week. SUNSET 18 is a collaboration between emerging artists (and best friends), CCA Jonas and 8lanco. Having met at school in the Norwegian city of Bergen, these two talents bonded over their creative ambitions.

As each of them has already garnered significant traction on their own merits, it’s looking like the SUNSET 18 project could well take them on to achieving international mainstream attention.

“‘CHANEL’ is about a fight between the two of us. We’re fighting over a girl and discussing who wants her more. The girl is a metaphor for a grammy, so in reality we’re fighting for a chance at our dreams. We want people to feel the special dynamic between us in CHANEL!”

Sam Tompkins – bloodline

Track of the week. Sam Tompkins is shaping up to become one of the UK’s largest musical exports over the coming months.

With millions of streams across platforms, a sold-out tour and a huge online fanbase (thanks to his series of viral covers), it seems inevitable that the Brighton-raised vocalist will deservedly hit the global mainstream.

‘Bloodline’ is a reminder that no matter how far our loved ones go, they are always still with us wherever we go.

Taken from the forthcoming EP ‘who do you pray to?’ which is out 4th February 2022 via Island Records.
