Already garnering a significant fan base within the UK comes London-based RnB talent Mnelia. The release of her single ‘Say Yeah’ last year has since picked up millions of streams thanks to it’s heady yet tasteful dose of nostalgia.
Today she returns with new single ‘My Bad’. This sultry and finessed number was produced by multi-platinum names TSB and iO and takes us back to RnB’s golden days.
Grammy award winning-Michigan native evrYwhr is back with a nostalgic slice of perfection in the form of ‘Tie Dye’. This is an eclectic blend of RnB and pop, written as a way to encourage listeners to just BE, much like the free flowing colours of the Tie Dye pattern.
“In every song I write, I try to keep it real, keep it positive, keep it light. I’ve loved the Motown sound my entire life and continue to draw on my roots, even as I work on new songs and ideas.”
A refreshingly original approach to alternative pop from American outift Lord Baltimore. With lyricism reminding us that life is short, ‘Gulf Of Mexico’ is a song that feels emotive, dreamy and almost ethereal in it’s tone.
“The song is about the fact that I won’t live forever, and I’ll be young for even less time. There will come a day where my eyes won’t be able to see the highway. Where my legs won’t be strong enough to wade into the warm waters of the Gulf. Where my stomach won’t be robust enough to handle a case of white claws at one o’clock in the morning.”
Taken from the upcoming EP ‘Angel’ which is out on 10th September 2021.
With a perfect fusion of hip hop, indie and punk-rock, Australian outfit Rest For The Wicked continue their global domination through new single ‘Feel The Same Way’.
Equally dark and playful, this relatable track is all about the overwhelming feelings of lust and love you feel for someone, only to be held back by timid insecurities.
An unstoppable talent emerging from London, Jenay Faith delivers a refreshingly bold and confident sound that is sure to take this breakthrough artist into the mainstream. ‘Pull Up’ is taken from the forthcoming debut EP, ‘Keep The Faith‘ which is out this October.
“I’m doing what I want, how I want… catch me if u can but I’m unstoppable baby.”
Motel 7 have yet to release a single which I have not fallen in love with. At this rate, it seems the LA-based duo will become a household name in a very short space of time. ‘Things I Hate’ is an introspective dive into the LA nightlife scene, with a distinct blend of rock and hip-hop that is really quite beautiful to experience.
“The concept of the song is kind of an ode to LA nightlife. An ode that in a way shits on LA’s occasional bad reputation with going out, partying, drug use, and any bad temptations that occur while doing so. We all have been there at some point I’m sure. Many people would easily repeat it all over again the next day, or next weekend. You see that a lot in LA, NY, Miami, or wherever nightlife culture is a big thing. It can be hard to avoid it.”
One of the most exciting newcomers to emerge this year, NY-based singer, songwriter, producer, and vocal phenomenon Camylio returns with an anthemic power-ballad in the form of ‘sometimes’. On the song, he says:
“At this point you’ve been broken up for a while, and the anger has faded. Your memory might be a little biased as you struggle to get used to being alone, but regardless, you miss them. You start going to all the places you used to go, partially out of nostalgia, partially to convince yourself that you’re moving on and can handle it. Whether you see them out on a first date at the coffee shop where you first met or just overhear the news from a mutual friend, you find out they’ve started seeing someone new. Ouch. The person you loved and imagined a future with is starting a future with someone else.”
With a playfully uplifting twist on indie-pop, Melbourne-based singer songwriter Jacob Fitzgerald could well be one of the Australia’s most promising new exports. ‘Pretty Good For My Mind’ is an effervescent bop brimming with charisma, charm and character.
“All my life I’ve been told my Dad was a hot-headed rebel and that my Mum was the beautiful, calming influence that made him get it together! I’ve never really seen that side of my father, so I found it to be quite romantic and poetic that after meeting on the dance floor as teens, they came together, grew as people and built a whole life. Whilst this track is conceptually about how my folks met, the overall message is that our partner should bring out the best in us. They should be good for our minds!”
Track of the week. With just shy of one billion streams across his catalogue to date and over nine million monthly listeners on Spotify, Purple Disco Machinehas truly established himself as a dance powerhouse.
‘Dopamine’ features London based, Dutch born singer songwriter Eyelar and is taken from his forthcoming album ‘Exotica’, out on the 15th October 2021.
Kicking the week off with one of my favourite singers from recent years, the fabulous Amber Mark.
‘Foreign Things’ carries that trademark soulful voice over a shimmering production, packed full of guaranteed feel-good vibes to set you in the best mood.
“‘Foreign Things’ is about the excitement of new experiences. The thrill of newness. This marks the start of my journey towards self discovery and serves as a precursor to the enlightenment and self love that’s achieved in previous singles Worth It and Competition. So excited to continue to piece this story together!”
Creator of eternally blissful electro-pop masterpieces, Kim Petras never fails to impress. New single ‘Future Starts Now’ is an anthemic bop that serves as a taster to her upcoming debut album, released in partnership with the powerhouse that is Republic Records.
“I felt so anxious at the start of lockdown, because for me the most anxiety-inducing thing is not being able to work and do what I love, ‘Future Starts Now’ came from trying to stay present, instead of stressing about the future and all the lost time.”
A sound that is both arresting as it is intriguing, Izzy Miyake’s style of music-making seems to transcend genres entirely; instead becoming an audible experience that really is very unique.
A melancholic pop anthem from Norwegian starlet Torine.‘Olivia’ is modern-day heartbreak song with a raw edge that perhaps many of us can connect with!
“Music has helped me through some difficult times during my life, and my biggest desire is that my music can do the same for other people”.
Hailing from the Netherlands, Elijah Waters has released one of the finest examples of hip hop and electronic pop harmoniously complimenting soulful tones.
‘Grey’ is a song like none other that I have experienced this week; it’s confidently unique yet moving and fragile at the same time.
‘Iosefka’ is likely to be the most emotionally intense release I have come across this week. This is an exceptional fusion of shoegaze and alternative rock, so outstanding that it needs a few listens to fully appreciate.
Constructed by multi-instrumentalist Hayien, this solo artist is influenced by psychedelic pop and shoegaze; blending genres effortlessly and creating sounds that feel refreshingly unique yet deeply moving.
The LA-based vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist wonder-kid that is Cassie Marin is back today with a sublime blend of RnB and pop in the form of new single ‘Busy Body’.
The song invites listeners to reflect on our culture’s technological obsession, where social media likes and follows have become the new markers for petty social politics.
“‘Busy Body’ is about being a loner in a world where cliques never cease to exist.”
Tyler Mann returns today with a dark and sultry, almost trippy sound that fuses alt-RnB with pop and disco in the most perfect way imaginable.
“‘Everyone Knows’ specifically is a paranoia party for the ego. A smokey bar where the whimsical salaciousness of gossip and the gut-dropping pang of social paranoia meet right at the corner of scary and sexy.”
Taken from the debut album ‘Hesperia’ which is out now.
American talent Khi Infinite is a 20 year-old artist who is currently crafting some of the finest RnB to emerge from the state of Virginia.
Incorporating elements of hip hop and bedroom pop into his sound, Khi’s music carries a sleek sense of finesse, while also feeling emotive and sincere in tone. On ‘LOVE FOR YAH’ he says:
“It’s a relatable message of feeling the need to tell the ones you love most that you are there for them and no distance is going to change that. I originally wrote this song during a time of great change and needed a way to express how I was feeling. Even though things were moving in the right direction for me professionally, I felt really disconnected from my family back home and I wanted to find a way to tell them that. Luckily, I am a musician and so I put all of what I was feeling into a song.”
Using music as a tool to advocate for social justice, LA-based singer-songwriter, producer and speaker Nina Grae crafts songs that carry meaning and purpose.
‘Cards’ blends elements of indie and pop into a song that serves to inspire and empower listeners. As Nina explains:
“This song is a female empowerment pop-bop for all the Queen’s owning their worth and not settling for anything less than a King!”
