Hailing from Milton Keynes in the UK comes emerging new outfit Cusp. With a style of sound that is energetic, bold, fun and full of character, the group may well be marked as ones to watch within the British rock-pop scene.
Their uplifting debut single ‘Beside You’ serves as a first glimpse into what this trio have in store for the future, and I for one am quite excited to see what’s next!
Track of the week. I’m not quite sure how I stumbled across ‘Perplexed’ by London group Boy Bleach, but in all honesty this is probably one of my favourite pop songs of the year so far.
There’s a captivating essence of melancholy running through the track that feels refreshingly deep, raw and honest. Yet somehow the sound still carries a pop sensibility that makes it just so easy to connect with.
Undoubtedly one of the most promising artists to emerge from the US lately, Doechii serves a finessed blend of RnB and hip hop on ‘Girls’ which is both infectious and deliciously addictive.
A dreamy and almost ethereal style of music from newcomer Kai Neptune. This is a sound that instantly takes you to another space in your mind, and is really rather beautiful to experience.
Brooklyn-based artist Chloe Lilac is back in an epic fashion today with new single ’10 Things’. The track is the first from an upcoming mixtape project which is due out later in the autumn, and looks at the rough edges of a close friendship’s fallout.
“I wrote 10 things about a bad friend i had throughout my life, and finally realising it wasn’t healthy for me to keep them around anymore. it can be so frustrating when a close friend prioritises a relationship above your friendship. Best friend breakups are one of the most painful things you can go through, especially when you feel let down by someone you trust so much.”
American singer-songwriter, producer and live electronic artist Jenna Kyle has released what looks set to be the anthem for the the weekend ahead.
‘Abre La’ marks a new openness and experimental nature within Kyle’s production and writing style, and is a deluxe bop thats is sure to win you over.
“We were living in a tiny NYC apartment during 2020, feeling entirely uncreative, just trying to keep sane and alive. I had just been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder right before the pandemic hit, and so I was processing a lot, reading a lot of poetry, and the darkness of Leonard Cohen’s ‘The Flame’ was keeping it real. We were all feeling so alone and trapped. The English verses are self-aware while the Spanish breakdown is subconscious, written all at once at 4am, the imagining of an opened world. In hindsight, writing ‘Abre La’ which means ‘open it, or open her’ was my attempt to not to go mad!”
Nu-punk artist Keeper returns with hard-hitting new single ‘Change’. Fusing elements of midwest emo with UK hip-hop and pop-punk, the track contrasts a fun sound against powerful and relevant lyrics.
This theme carries through with the video too, making use of important imagery to convey the serious undertones of the upbeat track:
“I felt it needed a more realistic stand. Things are bad right now, housing crisis, climate change, systemic racism. But through community, government pressure, and understanding you could start rolling the ball.”
Danish pop starlet mags returns today with another hi-energy bop in the shape of catchy new single ‘as long as we’re both breathing’.
This powerful love anthem tells of a heartfelt story of love and hate, while also carrying one of the most explosive choruses to come out of the Nordic pop scene this year!
“I wrote ’as long as we’re both breathing’ as my modern take on the famous words ’till death do us part’. It’s about the declaration of love – to stay together for better or worse. ‘as long as we’re both breathing’ is a song that emphasises the importance of communication and understanding as the keys to balance between love and hate in any close relation –two very different feelings that are often very close to each other on the emotional spectrum.”
An exceptional talent who is still just 19 years old, London-based VOTEFORSAMMO is a songwriter, producer and singer who’s refreshing blend of jazz, indie rock and electronica has already garnered praise from the likes of BBC Radio 5 Live,Independent Clauses and Artistic Echoes.
‘artificial light’ serves as a perfect showpiece for this talent, and offers us insightful and personal lyrics about the breakdown of a relationship.
Fusing elements of that distinctive pop-rock sound from the 2000’s with a more modern twist, Danish artist Daniel Joy returns today with a new release in the form of ‘Gone Girl’.
A song about loving someone but not being able to be with them, the track carries a charming sense of melancholy and is sure to stay in your head all day.
“The song came out of nowhere. I must have spent a month trying to write about how I felt, and suddenly the chorus popped into my head. The song is about me not understanding why it’s not enough to love someone, about having nightmares where she’s found someone new and lastly a promise to my naive hopeless romantic self, that if you love someone enough, you can get back to them, but first you have to accept that they are gone.”
Already commanding over a million followers on Instagram alone, Maria Domark is a future-pop artist and former model who has built a social empire for herself thanks to a unique visual identity, and an even more unique approach to music-making.
If you love the dark undertones of new single ‘Not Alright’ then be sure to check out the rest of the EP ‘Flawless’, which is out now.
Proving himself as one of Scotland’s most promising indie talents of late, producer and singer Cyrano creates stunningly dreamy and impactful pieces of music that feel both epic and cinematic in scale.
New single ‘Collateral’ is a coming of age track that embodies themes of independence, introspection, and the subconscious mind.
“‘Collateral’ has always felt like one big epiphany to me. Like Fight Club, the lyrics are meant to be a shared conversation with both a lover and with myself. It’s about those feelings of reliance and dependency on someone else, while striving for independence and autonomy over oneself. I wanted to personify those parallels in the structure, moving from verse – chorus to chorus – verse, and ending with a moment of self-actualisation.”
Emerging from Denmark, everBear serves as the alter ego for indie-folk artist Mathias Baadsgaard, who has been one of the most exciting new finds of the week.
Constructing deeply thoughtful pieces of music through gorgeously emotive soundscapes, everBear’s sound displays a sense of maturity and warmth while also being relatable to listeners.
‘End of the Line’ is a song about being young and free to do what ever you want to do. It tells a story about being in a place in the world where all of these things are possible; the freedom to find your own way in life.
It’s impossible not to be moved by the sheer power of Charlotte Rosse’s vocals. The London and Monaco based singer-songwriter releases her new acoustically arranged collection of songs today, and as expected it is all so utterly sublime. ‘One More Try’ is her rendition of a George Michael classic, and she explains:
“The third song from my acoustic EP is a tribute to the often overlooked George Michael. I wanted to refer with my latest release to the sound of the early 90’s and he was one of the biggest icons of that time. I have never before released such a vulnerable song, I think people already know the dramatic side of me and this time I wanted to share a different more gentle side. Still I performed the song in a soulful, classically influenced way backed by the piano and a string quartet.”
Hailing from Vienna in Austria, Felicia Lu is a German 24 year-old indie pop singer who crafts beautifully rich and intense pieces of music.
Today marks the release of her new EP ‘Relations’, which is a concept record consisting of six songs that are all about different stages of relationships. Explaining her new single ‘In Your Hands’, Felicia says:
“A song about falling deeply in love with someone. The feeling of giving that person your All.”
A rousing and anthemic approach to indie-rock and alt-pop from New Zealand newcomers Evening Is Youth. New single ‘Did You Find Your Brain’ is a bold, confident yet thought-provoking piece that is accompanied by equally interesting visuals. On the video, band member Connor describes the anonymous figure as:
“A blank canvas for the listener, a vehicle for them to project their own feelings of isolation, identity and self worth on – whilst, at the same, time representing the universality of the world we live in.”
A hugely talented duo who are no strangers to the music industry, Jacob Evergreen and Maxwell Flanders have already toured, written and recorded with artists like Jesse McCartney, Rooney, Rachel Platten, Mormor, Echosmith and Madison Beer to name but a few. So it comes as no surprise that their sound is a polished and incredibly addictive blend of indie-pop and rock, with a case in point being new single ‘Heartback’.
The track is all about frontman Evergreen, and the experience he had on a three month-long tour falling for a girl who just simply preferred girls.
