New Music: Vök
Icelandic dream pop with hints of indie. Check out here.
Live: Ja Ja Ja Festival at Roundhouse
Scandi music authority Ja Ja Ja hosted it’s first ever festival at London’s Roundhouse this weekend. A stellar roster of up and coming Scandinavian buzzbands filled up this ultra cool venue.
For someone like me, I was a little bit of a kid in a candy shop. Highlights were:
Postiljonen (Sweden)

Sin Fang (Iceland)

Truls (Norway)

NONONO (Sweden)

Sin Fang – Young Boys (Jónsi Remix)
New Music: Snorri Helgason
Cute Icelandic pop. Check out here.
New Music: Ásgeir Trausti
I haven’t featured any Icelandic music in some time. I’m a fan of this- it’s a fusion of funk and pop and electro but doesn’t go overboard on the effects. It borders on being sexy. And that’s cool. Check out here.
New Music: Sísý Ey
Rock ‘n’ Roll, Scandinavia!
A few weeks ago I suggested some tracks for American Express to feature on their pages, and they’ve come up with a really quite brilliant playlist of emerging Scandinavian artists.
Best of all, it’s all free to download, and features some of my absolute favourites like Johan Reinhold and Fallulah!
First Listen: Bloodgroup ‘The Fall’
This Icelandic band have actually been around since their debut in 2008 but this is the first I’ve heard of them. Gorgeous dark electro.
First Listen: Thorunn Antonia ‘Electrify My Heart’
First Listen: Steed Lord ‘Secret Love’
A nice slice of disco from those crazy Icelandic party monsters.
First Watch: Jara ‘Hope’
New Music: Dikta
Very well crafter Icelandic indie. They’re actually not new at all- they’ve been around since 1999 if Wikipedia is to be believed, but this is a very current track. And, well, it’s never too late… Check out here.
New Music: The Charlies
New Music: Jara
Quirky but edgy Icelandic pop. And it’s free! Check out here.
First Watch: Thorunn Antonia ‘So High’
There’s so much buzz around this Icelandic pop beauty that it’s exciting to wonder where’s it going to lead to.
New Music: Jon Jonsson
It’s Wednesday, and its half way through my holiday and I feel like I haven’t even started my break yet, which sucks. But anyway, this Icelandic chap has an infectiously happy sound that is already very popular in his homeland. This little song that should shake any midweek blues away. Check out here.
New Music: Of Monsters and Men
You’ve probably heard this track already- it’s pretty huge right now. Icelandic folk/pop. Check out here.
New Music: Daniel Oliver
Swedish pop from an Icelandic hunk in the making. Check out here.
First Watch: Mr Fogg ‘Moving Parts’
I mentioned Mr Fogg on here ages ago for an amazing little videohe made in the middle of London. Last year he released his debut album, also entitled ‘Moving Parts’, and is currently working on new material with Icelandic producer Valgeir Sigurdsson (Bjork and Feist), this video marks a stepping stone between his debut and new music set for release later this year.
The video was directed by American History X director, Tony Kaye and was shot at various locations around Los Angeles, including Walt Disney Concert Hall, and consists entirely of several thousand stop-animated still photographs.
