Kynsy – Point Of You

Rising Irish starlet Kynsy’s latest release is a masterclass in alt-pop. New single ‘Point Of You’ feels nostalgic and playful in essence, yet lures you in with its darker and edgier undertones.

Inspired by the trials and tribulations of falling in love, the song’s lyrics feel personal and relatable, while the melody will stick with you all day.

“’Point Of You’ is me trying to work my way through the different sides of romance, happiness and disappointment. It’s about being stuck in the same cycle of falling in love with people who don’t or will never love you back and the feeling of tiredness that comes from attempting to have romantic relationships with people that never go your way. It’s about being love hungry for an honest and pure connection but being so fed up and dissatisfied by trying and trying that you start to ask yourself, ‘what’s the point’?”

Featured by the likes of NME, DIY Magazine and BBC, Kynsy is rapidly being hailed as one of Ireland’s most exciting new musical prospects.

Benjamin Carter – Black Boys On The Radio

Photo / Abraham Azab

Rising musician Benjamin Carter unveils a new single today, in anticipation of his upcoming EP ‘Black Boys on the Radio: Part I’.

Written as a powerful piece of social commentary, ‘Black Boys On The Radio’ finds the Caribbean-American songwriter & entrepreneur focusing on how society views black Americans who aren’t idolised in the mainstream media.

“American culture seems to praise the athlete and artist and actor who is black and in entertainment, yet many who look just like them are being stereotyped, marginalised, and face various prejudices that don’t allow them to progress as people. It’s not enough to pay the actor, rapper, or athlete and say ‘look we aren’t racist’ we must each – black, white, latin, asian, etc – be vulnerable and willing to own up to our mistakes and look for ways to grow. This is why the chorus sings ‘and I know if I cry it’ll make you stay, so please don’t, please don’t run away.'”

To date, Carter has garnered placements on some of Spotify’s most noted playlists (including New Music Friday), as well as praise from the likes of NPR and Variance.

‘Black Boys on the Radio: Part I’ EP is out 29th June 2022.

Kenzie TTH – Bonnie (B Side)

Multi disciplinarian artist Kenzie TTH marks her return with the announcement of a new body of work, starting with the release of new single ‘Bonnie (B Side)’.

Co-written and produced by Leon Vynehall, this beautifully honest song invites listeners into Kenzie TTH’s world behind closed doors – and addresses the issue of who we truly are, versus what people expect us to be.

“To me, Bonnie as a character is the girl that gets labelled ‘quirky’ or the ‘eccentric manic pixie dream girl’ and feels like she plays a supporting character in her own life. I think we all have some Bonnie in us – the presentation and performance of self that then gets commodified and flattened into a two dimensional object by others.”

Kenzie TTH has already picked up early praise from the likes of Highsnobiety, Trench and The Guardian thanks to her tastefully eccentric and highly original approach to R&B and pop.

EDEN – Modern Warfare

Photo / Alex Waespi

Track of the week. A master of many talents, EDEN is not only a singer but also producer, label head, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who has been on our radar since 2016.

Throughout the years, this Dublin-bred artist’s work has evolved exceptionally – with his latest single, ‘Modern Warfare’ being nothing short of perfection.

The song marks EDEN’s return to the spotlight since the release of his 2020 project ‘no future’, and features a production that is conceptually experimental and refreshingly future-forward.

“This song is a meditation on the blurred lines between life and interaction online and irl, there was a time where I had rejected certain aspects of social life by refusing to use the tools of our time, and modern warfare came after a period of reintegration. There is a sense of maturity coming into these spaces and situations after time away, despite how urgent everything can feel. An ability to not be dragged into the reactionary anxiety that is so often associated with social media. This is not to say that there isn’t plenty of anxiety to be found elsewhere – just that knowing what you want from things is a helpful way to avoid getting rekt. Water off a digital duck’s back.”

With support from the likes of Billboard, CLASH and V Man, this may well be EDEN’s biggest year so far.

New Music: Daniella Binyamin

Rapidly gaining momentum across Scandinavia is rising artist Daniella Binyamin.

New single ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ showcases this talent’s extraordinary abilities at writing songs that feel gripping and moving, while still maintaining some pop sensibilities.

“The day I wrote ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ I remember feeling everything and nothing all at once. My heart felt like a rollercoaster and my head was a mess. I went to the studio, where me and my co-producer Oskar were supposed to write for another artist. But I just felt, I needed to write something else. Something real. To get all those feelings off my chest. All those feelings turned into the song toothpaste kisses. I think I needed to write that song in order to move on. It’s such a special one to me.”

With a style of music-making that features vivid lyricism over luxurious productions, it may come as no surprise to learn that Binyamin is already an accomplished songwriter, having written for the likes of Lukas Graham and Zara Larsson.

New Music: WYSE

Hailing from England’s South Coast is emerging  producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist WYSE.

With a sound that blends elements of alternative rock with indie, shoegaze and dark pop, this rising artist creates songs that are refreshingly experimental and distinctive in tone. On new single ‘Belladonna‘, WYSE says:

“We tried to get the toms to sound as much like thunder as we could, experimenting with different drums, mics and post-production effects. I wanted something to emulate a lightning strike in the outbreak of guitars and the drums. Owain has a pipe that runs all the way from the live room to the control room and when he kicked it and pressed record, it had a rattling sound that for me was like lightning! It’s in the background of the recording but it adds some drama to that section I think.”

To date, WYSE has picked up attention from influential outlets like Atwood Magazine and Gold Flake Paint, as well as spins on BBC Radio 1 and Introducing.
