This was for a TV filming for the Koko Pop show, which is broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK from the famous Koko. I love Koko, it’s the most gorgeous music venue in London I reckon. I think I was the oldest person in here tonight, and I’m 26… More pics on my Flickr.
I have a feeling this band has been around for a while but I’ve only just stumbled across them and was simply blown away by what they were making. A collaboration by Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver, who I’m not a massive fan of as it goes…) and Collections of Colonies of Bees. ‘Island, IS’ is a surprisingly upbeat yet numb track which makes you feel a little warm inside. The video to said track is also very clever, see is you can spot why here. Check out here.
Thank God for sending KanYe down to this faceless and humourless world. For without KanYe, we wouldn’t have little kids reenact all of his classics… from his Twitter feed. So funny and cute!
This band fits into the Washed Out and Active Child scheme of things- stunning lofi melodic sounds coming from Virginia. ‘Palm of Your Hand’ is gorgeously crafted genius. Their remix album, Paradise Falls was released earlier in the autumn and had the touch of Diplo within. Download ‘Glimpse of the Future (Remix)’ here and check out their music here.
Currently featured in the Gorillaz’ lush new single ‘Doncamatic’, I’m a little excited about Daley. I reckon he might be huge this time next year in the UK with his crisp, innocent voice and simple, soulful tunes. He’s like a chilled out Erik Hassle (the hair…) You can check out his BBC Introducing session here, or go to his Myspace here and get a free download.
I’ve featuredLiam Bailey on here a couple of times already- and I saw him at Tottenham Court Road station yesterday singing to himself in that cocksure ‘Im going to be big’ kind of way. Of course I didn’t stop him, he probably would have hit me. But it did make me wonder what happened to him- he was meant to release something last month and I didn’t really hear much about it. Anyway, I still don’t know much but I see that he’s now signed to Amy Winehouse’s label, Lioness. And the songs on his’ So Down, Cold’ E.P are pretty amazing. Above is one such song, and you can hear the rest here.
By Looptroop Rockers: ‘ Following the latest election in Sweden (September 19) we wrote, and recorded this song – responding to a racist party being voted in to the Swedish parliament in particular, and to the extreme right wing winds blowing over European and world politics in general. The feelings of frustration and anger had to be channeled some way, and the very day after the election we met in the Wax Cabinet studio to voice our opinion about history repeating itself, and Sweden being an even colder country this fall…’ Check out here.
This is the new single by Gorillaz. It features someone called Daley, who I’ve been meaning to write something about for a couple of weeks but never got round to it. I will do it though- his vocals are perfect for this tune!
Wow. Woow. Wooow. When Doves Cry is probably the best thing to come out of the 80’s, and Robyn is probably one of the best things to come out of the 90’s, so you know… I don’t know where this sentence is going to be honest, I’ve had some wine. This is pretty amazing though.
Second time I’ve seen Penguin Prison play in London- he’s so much fun! Loads of girls dancing at the front, I sense he’s becoming a bit of a heart throb for Shoreditch hipsters. I see big things for this popster!
You can buy it online for £3.99 today from HMV! I didn’t know Stuart Price produced this album- going to give it a listen on the way to work tomorrow and see what all the fuss is about.
Stunning dramatic slow dub with a big voice. The undertones on ‘Limit To Your Love’ are mind blowing. Something about James Blake reminds me of Jamie Woon. Check out here.
23-year-old triple threat Danielle DeLaite has been on the stage since the age of three-years-old. She has travailed through the trials and tribulations of failed recording contracts and unscrupulous agencies yet she has never given up on her dream of being a performer. Result? ‘Nothing to Wear’ is a TUNE- specially the Israel remix below.
Some brand new stuff for you here. I love this girl’s look- so hot. New York Based Bekele carries that polished NY club sound well- I forget that I’m stuck on a wet Sunday afternoon in London when ‘Popstitute’ comes on. What is a Popstitute? ‘In the context of the song, a Popstitute is someone who takes charge of the party and seduces the crowd to get up and dance, giving everyone a sort of a musical hard-on’. LOVE IT! With almost half a million hits on her Myspace, she’s not going to be unsigned for very long. Watch out for the upcoming debut EP, “Confessions of a Popstitute”. Check out here.
