New Music: Eliza Oakes

Emerging from South East London is newcomer Eliza Oakes. Drawing her inspirations from soul, pop, rock and jazz, this multi-faceted artist is influenced by the likes of Freddie Mercury, Laura Mvula, and everything in between.

New single ‘Til They’re Gone’ showcases Eliza’s more vulnerable side, with a composition that builds in intensity which is truly captivating to experience. On the song she says:

“I sometimes struggle to get my thoughts down on paper for lyrical content, but the strength of emotion of this song meant the words flowed very naturally, there was nowhere to hide. The silence was entirely purposeful as I went through a habit of overcrowding songs straight away from excitement. I began this song with the objective to be as minimal texturally as possible, it was an exercise of patience and rest.”

Taken from the new EP ‘An Intuition’ which is out now.

New Music: mustbejohn

Heavily inspired by his surroundings, Hertfordshire born and bred talent mustbejohn is fast becoming known for his relatable and catchy sounds; so much so that he already commands over 80,000 monthly listeners on Spotify alone.

New EP ‘I’m In If You Are’ sees this artist seamlessly merge genres across six tracks, as he tells stories of life in the city, parties and the people that he knows.

“‘I’m In If You Are’ is quite literal in the sense, I’m in if you are! I’m sharing my personal experiences, ones with friends and a whole lot of stuff I’d probably be best not saying, but that’s probably what makes it worth the listen! There’s a blend of genres that I’ve always loved in there and that makes it really special for me. This record is the soundtrack of the most recent years of my life; messy nights, hangovers, confusion mixed in with some hope along the way!”

‘I’m In If You Are’ is out now.

New Music: SUNSET 18

Track of the week. SUNSET 18 is a collaboration between emerging artists (and best friends), CCA Jonas and 8lanco. Having met at school in the Norwegian city of Bergen, these two talents bonded over their creative ambitions.

As each of them has already garnered significant traction on their own merits, it’s looking like the SUNSET 18 project could well take them on to achieving international mainstream attention.

“‘CHANEL’ is about a fight between the two of us. We’re fighting over a girl and discussing who wants her more. The girl is a metaphor for a grammy, so in reality we’re fighting for a chance at our dreams. We want people to feel the special dynamic between us in CHANEL!”

New Music: Amelia Moore

Some of the most original alt-pop to emerge from the US right now seems to be made by Amelia Moore. The longer you listen to ‘sweet and sour’, the more you are rewarded with unexpected musical twists and turns.

With a style of music-making that results in songs being delightfully unpredictable in their nature, this artist is firmly one to watch for.

Amber Ryann – BEEN HIGH

Another outstanding pop release from LA-based talent Amber Ryann. ‘BEEN HIGH’ sees the artist and producer perform a song that is not only refreshingly honest in lyricism, but also melodically captivating.

More so than most songs by emerging artists right now, this single shows that Amber’s self-awareness and authenticity is well beyond her years.

New Music: Dan B. Patrick

A beautifully constructed and powerfully moving release from London-based, Irish-Welsh singer-songwriter Dan B. Patrick. Using his distinctively powerful vocal, this artist focuses on the most salient aspects of the human experience, covering love, loss, mortality and hope.

“[Embers was written] at a time when I felt particularly panicked about the future. I felt as though I was very far away from the goals I had set myself and that I was badly letting my younger self down. So the song was initially written as a letter of apology to my younger self (which in hindsight was absurdly melodramatic).”

Already garnering praise from the likes of BBC Introducing, Soho Radio, Amazing Radio, and The Irish World, this is one artist to watch.

Taken from the debut EP ‘A Streak Of Light’ which is out now.

New Music: Master Peace

UK talent Master Peace expertly fuses elements of hip hop, trap, punk and indie into well… masterpieces.

This is an artist who has already garnered praise from the likes of Annie Mac, Jack Saunders and BBC Introducing, continuing to build momentum with each exhilaratingly eccentric release.

“After playing at festivals over the summer, my shows were brought to life with this song. It has that Punk energy in it and it’s all in the title – Shakedown. The live side of Master Peace is where I get to show my playful side and when I touch the stage it’s exactly that – a shakedown!”

Master Peace will be joining Everyone You Know, as well as KAWALA on their upcoming UK tours, and next year in March is his UK headline ‘Public Display Of Affection’ tour.

New Music: Bradley Baker

An exceptional talent emerging from Cornwall, Bradley Baker creates a kind of sound that is immediately captivating thanks to it’s warm and emotive tones.

‘Seasons’ is a stripped-back acoustic piece that reflects on how the world changes with the seasons, while the love of a relationship remains the same.

Considering the fact that Baker only started creating music during lockdown, this is one British artist who’s firmly on the ‘one to watch’ list.

New Music: Yueku

It’s almost impossible not to feel some kind of love for Yueku’s ‘Second Best’. Emerging from Detroit, this talent is crafting some of the most beautiful fusions of indie and bedroom pop that I have come across all month.

New Music: Toby Corton

A refreshingly original fusion of neo-soul and indie from emerging UK queer creative Toby Corton.

Beautifully melodic ‘Cherub Child’ reflects the process that queer members of society go through where their instinctive, pure, innocent and angelic ways of expressing themselves are put through the constrictive filter of growing up in a straight world.

“I think I was very aware even from a young age that I was queer, even if I didn’t know the word or what it meant, I had a constant feeling of difference. Even now, although less and less, I catch myself in certain situations tacitly apologising or obfuscating my queerness so it’s not the first thought someone has about me, because for a very long time my first thoughts in every social situation was, ‘do you think they can tell? Will they treat me differently when they do know’. Therefore, I’m very much singing to myself, telling myself to keep going and following my queer-intuition.”

New Music: Zevia

Zevia’s ‘if depression gets the best of me’ shows a 19-year old talent carrying wisdom far beyond her years.

With a sound that is both fragile and haunting in equal measures, I sense it will be impossible for anyone who listens to not fall in love with this hugely promising artist.

New Music: Kennedy Stewart

While still only 16-years old, Kennedy Stewart has created one of the most impressive slices of indie-rock that I have come across all week. This is a bold, powerful and punchy sound that defines the essence of youth.

“This song is about time. Someone should lives how they want and the pressure of time shouldn’t force them to do anything that they don’t.”

Kennedy Stewart

New Music: Hadley Kennary

American artist Hadley Kennary carefully constructs pop sounds that are, on the surface, easy to listen to – all the while carrying lyricism that is raw, insightful and direct.

New single ‘Love Like That’ is a cathartic take on letting go while also taking responsibility for one’s impact in a relationship.

Taken from forthcoming EP ‘Crooked Roots’ which is due out later this year.

New Music: Callen

Emerging from Nashville, Callen is a singer-songwriter and producer. With a skill for creating songs that feature exceptionally honest and sincere lyrics, this talent’s style of alt-pop connects with listeners on a deeper level.

“‘What Could I Do’ is a reflection of my youth. A good part of it is about wishing I didn’t take life so seriously growing up. Another part of it is a reflection on my letting go of previous relationships without really understanding any sort of closure. Together, those two reflections lead me to the chorus which is dealing with the anxiety that comes with retrospect and heartache aka shit that’s out of my control.”

New Music: Mike Akox

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I believe the next swathe of musical talent to hit the global mainstream will emerge from Africa. And with that being said, Mike Akox is a perfect example of an artist you should keep an eye out for.

This Ghanaian-born musician has spent the last fifteen years in Australia, and has now returned home to Accra and is releasing some of the finest Afro-Beat that I have heard in quite some time.

“Music is for the soul. I recorded this song as a one take record as I do with all my records. May it move you. Feel it spiritually and let’s touch the world with music.”

Talking about the video, he says:

“This film was shot all on one take from my gate through out my morning walk path. Nobody had an idea. My visuals creator ‘Manic’ who also shot this Video also had no idea till that morning. Every soul in this had no idea just pure love. In this video are some kids I have putting in school, clothed and fed as part of my humanitarian works I’m doing with my Music. Music is the Gift and the purpose is to serve the world. Through my given talents as an artist i will touch and heal the world.”
