New Music: Mikaela Stenmo

Mikaela Stenmo continues Sweden’s proud tradition as being the home of electro-pop with the release of new single, ‘Heart Attack’.

Unmistakably Scandinavian in character, the song’s melancholic essence contrasts beautifully against an uptempo electronic production, while the lyrics tell of the stresses that come with being in love.

“The lyrics explore how I realise that I am the culprit in a fight between my ex boyfriend and I and try anything and everything to get him back. The song highlights the stress one feels when desperately trying to get a hold of someone they love.”

The song was originally conceived in 2020 with the help of Wille Enblad and Lucas Albrektsson, and has undergone two years of revisions before its release today.

Barny Fletcher – Weakness

Photo / Darren Filkins

Rising London-based genre-bending artist Barny Fletcher unveils a new mixtape project today, entitled ‘JETPACK’.

Consisting of ten tracks (including infectious new single ‘Weakness’), the mixtape presents listeners with sounds that seamlessly fuse elements of alternative hip hop with R&B and pop. Speaking on the project, Fletcher says:

“‘JETPACK’ started out as a 3 track pack of songs. Over time I kept adding to it and eventually stopped myself at 10 before it turned into a double side album. During Covid, studio sessions weren’t really possible, so I found myself writing to beats from the internet, just how I used to when I first started writing. The process was refreshing actually.

I’ve worked with Platinum producers & Grammy winners, but nothing compares to writing a hot song to a beat which has been hiding in a corner of the infinite labyrinth, which is the internet. ‘JETPACK’ has energy and all the songs serve a purpose. Front to back. Listen and enjoy.”

With more than 73k monthly Spotify listeners and millions of career streams to date, Fletcher is a promising talent who has already garnered praise from noted tastemakers like i-D, Notion, NME. BBC Radio 1 and Earmilk amongst others.

Representing some of Nashville’s most exciting new music, Dylan Dunn is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who crafts indie-pop sounds that are refreshingly experimental and bold in tone.

New single ‘I’m Not Clyde’ was produced by Adam Castilla from Californian rock outfit The Colourist, and tells of the times when we commit ourselves to someone who we know is not right for us.

“‘I’m Not Clyde’ embodies the idea of trying to force a square peg through a round hole. I really wanted to capture the sense of a match made in heaven that was bound to fall apart in the end, and using Bonnie and Clyde’s imagery felt too perfect to pass up.”

Dunn is currently readying himself for the release of a new upcoming EP. In the meantime, fans can enjoy his debut ‘Blue Like You’ project (out now).

New Music: Alle The Dreamer

Canada has been the home to some of the most impressive emerging pop talents this year, and today’s introduction of Alle The Dreamer continues with this trend.

New single ‘Lonely Hallucinations’ was produced and co-written alongside Derek Hoffman (who has also worked with the likes of RALPH and Grae), and presents a gorgeously charming pop sound that is impossible not to be moved by.

“I wrote this song about being stuck in between the past and the present. It’s a break up song about my inability to see clarity and wanting peace. Feeling paralysed in my decisions and constantly reliving memories from the past. I also have this deep fear of making mistakes and then regretting them in the future. So it was kind of like all of these mixed feelings that were coming up. You know when someone is talking to you, but you’re just somewhere else, lost in a memory? Yeah that’s Lonely Hallucinations. It’s about all the thoughts and memories that live in your head that no one knows about.”

While also working on her own solo material, Alle has collaborated on projects for notable global artists like DVBBS, Morgan Page, Little Mix and Suho.

Melancholic new single ‘leave her’ continues to showcase the trio’s impressive style of alternative R&B, and was inspired by the difficulties of knowing which path is best for you.

“This song talks about how I feel when you’re being pulled in two different directions but don’t know which way will sit best with you. Everyone around you tries to have good intentions but ultimately, only you can figure it all out. The song needed lots of space to breathe sonically in order to contradict the message of the actual song.”

Fans of this emerging group will be pleased to know that an upcoming EP, entitled ‘u the real star here’, is scheduled for released on the 19th November via Sweat Entertainment.
