“Goth Pop’ Visions of Trees create a haunting and penetrating sound that takes advantage of the sonic freedom afforded by electronic music to simultaneously evoke the alienation of urban life and the austerity of nature.”

New Music: Bossy Love
This is kinda 80’s inspired pop. There’s been a lot of that going around the last few years and I’m sort of over it now but this is one of those few exceptions. It’s fun. Check out here.
First Watch: MNEK ‘If Truth Be Told’
I’ve been a bit obsessed with MNEK for a while now. Anyway, this song is not new, but it’s been reworked and is getting a proper release that an amazing tune like this deserves. He’s also co-written current crazy hit ‘All Fired Up’ by The Saturdays which is top 10 in the UK charts at the moment.
You know what I like about him? He puts enough fun in his pop without it sounding like something out of a CBeebies show. Check him out!
New Music: Jon Ink
This is a preview from up and coming Swedish pop hunk Jon Ink. Fans of Melodifestivalen may recognise the face from this year’s contest where he went by the name of Jonas Matsson. He’s definitely going in a better direction! Check out here.
New Music: Great Mountain Fire
These guys have been together since childhood apparently, and you can sort of hear that in their music- it’s got a very child-like vibe about it but still managing to sound pretty cool and indie. Check out here.
This is how to build hype over an album…
I watched this and got chills down my spine from hearing the story told. The band’s called ‘Jack’s Mannequin’. To be honest, I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t have appreciated their music as much if I hadn’t had seen this video first. Excellent marketing!
First Watch: The New Spring ‘For Everest (Shelley)’
New Music: Theme Park
First Watch: Amy Winehouse & Tony Bennett ‘Body and Soul’
This is it- Amy’s last recording. Single’s out today on iTunes. Buy it and remember the greatness that was Amy Winehouse, and to support the new Foundation set up in her name which was also launched today- what would have been Amy’s birthday (the single’s proceeds will go towards it). She looks stunning. I wrote a post a while ago about how important Amy’s music was (and still is) so special to me- read it here if you like.
New Music: LIGHTS
I think one of the big reasons I love Scandinavian music is because it seems to be the only part of the world that takes pop music seriously enough to make some really outstanding tunes. Then you hear amazing pop by someone like LIGHTS from Canada and you get happy. Check out here.
New Music: Hudson Mohawke
This isn’t exactly ‘new music’ as it’s all re-workings of classics- this is ‘Pleasure Principle’ by Janet Jackson. Check out here.
Bye Bye DJ Mehdi…
One of my favourite hip hop/ electro DJ’s from France has died… He was only 34. So sad. RIP DJ Mehdi.
Rave rave rave
You know, it’s Tuesday, and I can imagine you all feeling a bit down. Give this a few seconds and you’ll start bopping up and down like you’re on something.
New Music: Keaton Henson
This just slows you down to stop and listen. It’s sort of delicate and powerful at the same time. Check out here.
Amy Winehouse & Tony Bennett’s single out on Wednesday
“Amy’s final recording, a duet with her hero Tony Bennett titled “Body and Soul”, will be released by Columbia Records this Wednesday 14th September. This special recording is released at 8am GMT on what would have been Amy’s 28th birthday, in aid of the Amy Winehouse Foundation. The song was recorded in March of this year at Abbey Road Studios in London for Tony Bennett’s upcoming Duets II album. An accompanying video of the two singing “Body and Soul” together in the studio will also be premiered via amywinehouse.com and Vevo.
The Foundation will be set up by her family to help a number of charities connected with children and young people.
Amy’s father Mitch said, “We wanted to make a positive difference and help a range of causes close to Amy’s heart. This could include help for children in trouble, suffering from health problems, children’s hospices and more.”
“While it is separate from my campaign to find more help for young addicts, that may be one of the areas that Foundation contributes to. We intend to raise funds and distribute them to individual projects who apply for help. I couldn’t be happier that everyone involved with Amy and this recording felt they wanted to contribute.”
New Music: Shwain
I’m seeing a lot of really big RnB/ soul talent from the UK lately, and it makes me happy. I’m adding Shwain to that list. Check out here.
Check out the new single by Nautiluss and Lord Skywave
By Canadian producer ‘Nautiluss’ – Graham Douglas Bertie, previously of Thunderheist (Big Dada) and UK singer/songwriter Simon Lord (Simian / Black Ghosts) under his Lord Skywave alter-ego.
The pair became mates after a liquor sponsored tour of North America. The result of their collaboration comes in the form of ‘Ultraviolet’; A pitch perfect piece of dark, melancholic club music, backed with the brand new Nautiluss instrumental ‘Bleu Monday’. Out September 26th.
First Watch: Alex Boyd ‘One Day At A Time’
I’ve already featured Alex Boyd previously on here, and this is his new video. I really can’t wait for the rest of the world to catch up with this guy- he’s just too good!
First Watch: The Young Professionals ’20 Seconds’
My favourite Israeli camp pop duo have come out with a new single, ’20 Seconds’. The video seems to carry off from their last single, D.I.S.C.O. which was featured here a while back.
First Listen: Professor Green ft Emeli Sandé ‘Read All About It’
An epic return for the mighty Professor Green featuring one of the big stand-out debut artists of the year, Emeli Sandé.
