New Music: Delilah

She’s the voice for Chase & Status’ hit ‘Time’, and now Delilah’s done a re-working of Chaka Khan’s ‘Aint Nobody’ and it’s nothing short of amazing. So excited about this one. Check out here.

Hear Amy Winehouse talk about her duet with Tony Bennett

Oh Amy, I miss you so! What’s gearing up to be ‘the’ posthumous Amy Winehouse single (and rightfully so), out on the 14th September with all proceeds going to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
Yesterday, Amy’s father Mitch Winehouse announced via Twitter that, “The launch of Amy’s foundation 14th September. We will turn our grief into positive action”.

Spector

I’m nearing to 1000 blog posts on Alfitude, and I must confess I don’t remember all the bands I feature. Which I guess is a good thing, because it shows how much good music is out there. I set out writing this particular post as a ‘New Music’ segment, until I realised that I had already featured these guys some time ago.

That’s never happened before, so I suppose Spector are my new obsession.

I’m really liking Spector. You get the feeling that they’re going to get very big very soon. This is the future of rock and roll! Check out here.

New Music: Washington

I love this. Born in Papua New Guinea, Megan Washington has gone platinum in her Australian homeland. Now residing in New York, she has played the likes of SXSW and sold out shows at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen. Freshly signed to Mercury, Washington will be heading back to the UK this autumn for her biggest tour to date. Check out here.

A decade ago today one of the world’s biggest singles was released…

Ten years ago today a single was released in Australia which which would not only become one of the biggest selling singles of the 21st Century, but change the landscape of popular music forever more and send a home-grown girl from Melbourne soaring to a whole new stratosphere of globe conquering proportions…

New Music: Elsie

Blondie inspired disco rock with catchy guitar hooks, thumping beats and a distinctive vocal. Championed by the likes of Jim Lowe (Stereophonics) who also produced the album, Par Westerlund (The Wanted, The Saturdays), Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith/ Foreigner) and Ian Barter (Amy Winehouse). I personally think the video montage thing is mighty cheesy but if you like the song you can download a free copy on her Facebook here.

Rick Mereki: Move Learn Eat

This is just a set of videos I stumbled across, I don’t really know much about them but they moved me so I thought I’d share. .. “3 guys, 44 days, 11 countries, 18 flights, 38 thousand miles, an exploding volcano, 2 cameras and almost a terabyte of footage… all to turn 3 ambitious linear concepts based on movement, learning and food … into 3 beautiful and hopefully compelling short films…” Check out here.

So who’s going home with a Mercury?

We’ll find out on BBC2 in the UK from 10pm tonight with the highly annoying Lauren Laverne (or ‘1995’ as I like to call her). If you do a Google Image search for the awards, PJ Harvey seems to be the most googled artist today, but it’s anyone’s game.

UPDATE: PJ Harvey won.
