New Music: Isabel Pless

Nashville singer and songwriter Isabel Pless has to be one of our favourite discoveries of the month. As a musician who has been consistently gaining momentum across the globe, it seems only a matter of time before Isabel hits the mainstream.

‘I Don’t Feel Pretty’ is the artist’s latest single, and was inspired by the effects that modern-day life has on us—heightening our insecurities and increasing feelings of loneliness.

Through its simple melody and considered style of production, the track’s lyrics really shine through, allowing for listeners to relate to the words (and let’s face it, we all sometimes share the song’s sentiments).

Despite being a relative newcomer, Isabel’s music has garnered more than 4.5 million streams on Spotify to date, proving that this starlet really is a talent to watch for.

Martin Luke Brown – hello !

After a hugely successful year as a part of supergroup FIZZ, Alfitude favourite Martin Luke Brown is back with one of the most interesting releases of the week.

‘hello !’ treats listeners to a heady fusion of indie, lo-fi pop, and R&B. The track is as eccentric as it is charming, and is complimented by comforting lyricism that encourages us to look at the positives in life.

“Given the whirlwind of the past year with FIZZ I thought it would be fun to kickstart my next project with an acknowledgement that there may well be lots of new people listening to me as well as old friends. It’s a lil groovy one about changing and adapting as life moves. I never want my artist project to feel like a cage I’ve built for myself.”

‘hello !’ sets the scene for Martin’s next stage in an already impressive career. We’re excited to see what’s in store!

Matt Sahadi – A Late Night Mantra

We’ve enjoyed Nashville artist Matt Sahadi’s music for quite some time, so we’re thrilled to see that he’s back with a mesmerising new single called ‘A Late Night Mantra’.

The track’s lyrics dwell on a former relationship that Sahadi experienced and focuses on the associated anxieties that he went through as a result. These feelings keep the artist awake in the night, and yet, “Promising himself he will move on in the morning, the pattern of destructive thinking leads Matt to realize that he “[Knows himself] better.”

Sonically, the track gathers its inspiration from works by the likes of The Cure and Fontaines DC. If this is your first time coming across Sahadi’s music, then be sure to explore his Spotify and give his latest EP, ‘Dreams That Kept Your Faith At Night,’ a spin here.

Noah Vernon – SECOND CHOICE

Track of the week. We’ve made no secret in the past of our love for rising Australian artist Noah Vernon and his impressive take on pop music.

Today sees the return of the much-hyped musician with an anthemic new single called ‘SECOND CHOICE’. This track packs a punch with its rousing blend of pop and indie-rock and powerful lyricism.

“‘SECOND CHOICE’ is about a toxic relationship. It’s written from the perspective of he/she having a wake-up call about the situation but still second guessing what is going on. Being in that tricky relationship limbo of not knowing when to leave but also knowing it’s wrong at the same time.”

If you’re as obsessed with Noah as we are, then be sure to experience his recently released ‘THIS EP TOOK 5 YEARS’ record, which is highly recommended. You can check it out on Spotify right here.

Rum Jungle – Weather’s Better

It’s been quite the week, so what better way to end it than with Rum Jungle’s latest bop, ‘Weather’s Better’.

This highly infectious track blends upbeat pop with indie in a way that brings joy to any listener, and the lyrics compliment the production since they’re about “that feeling you get when you’re cruising down whichever highway is your closest with whichever person is your closest; that feeling of loving life and loving someone else’s company. What the person, anywhere is good.”

“It’s a tune we had sitting around for a couple of months. It was originally much more of a chiller with some more whacky parts. I had writing it and kind of kept it in the bank until Fraz pulled it back out of the vault thinking it had heaps of potential.” – Benny, Rum Jungle

It’s a blissful, playful, and utterly charming song that deserves to be on everyone’s playlists this weekend.

If you’re a fan of this emerging outfit, then you’re in good company—there’s more than 200k monthly listeners on their Spotify! You can check out more of Rum Jungle’s music right here.

Claire Brooks – PISCES FINE

Track of the week. Pisces folk typically get a rep for being one of the more notorious signs of the zodiac, and Claire Brooks’s latest single seems to epitomise the sentiment perfectly.

‘PISCES FINE’ is inspired by the unforgettable moments we create in our youth, and the nostalgia associated with them as we grow older.

“When I wrote ‘PISCES FINE’ I was thinking about all the stupid shit I did in college with my friends and how those were some of the best moments of my life. These days I’m sober and honestly don’t go out much, and this song reminds me how good it feels to be a kid.”

Claire’s music has so far found its way onto flagship playlists like Spotify’s Fresh Finds Hip-Hop and Fresh Finds, while also garnering praise from outlets such as F Word Magazine and 1883. An upcoming EP is scheduled for release very soon!

Kylie Rothfield – Never Loved Somebody

Acclaimed American musician Kylie Rothfield has long been a critic’s favourite, garnering praise from national outlets like Rolling Stone and Billboard, as well as fellow artists – including the icon that is Alicia Keys herself.

Rothfield returns today with a powerful pop anthem titled ‘Never Loved Somebody’. The song was inspired by the unbalanced nature of some relationships, when one person feels as though their emotions are not recognised sincerely by their partner. As the lyrics go:

So how does it feel
To carry all the power when you don’t even want it
You’ll never heal if
All you know is how to be wanted
So just be honest

You’ve never loved somebody

Kylie’s music has not only achieved significant success over the years, but also landed spots on networks such as ABC, NBC, and MTV. You can enjoy more of Kylie’s music on Spotify.

Chloe Echo – Something Like

Queenstown singer, songwriter, and producer Chloe Echo has just unveiled a sensational new single that is already becoming an autumn favourite at Alfitude.

‘Something Like’ treats us to an indie production which also incorporates elements of electronica and pop, resulting in a sound that is easy on the ear but also possesses a certain level of complexity that leaves listeners intrigued for more.

“I wrote this song about the process of attempting to find the right words to express yourself but feeling frozen in silence. The lyrics paint a romantic image, but it looks at a beautiful moment that is clouded by anxiety. This nuanced emotion of love and anxiety intertwined was really inspiring to me, and I wanted to create a track that felt simultaneously frantic and relaxed. I produced the song in Ableton, combining unique electronic elements, a fast breakbeat, and acoustic guitar to create something that felt like it captured the essence of the song.”

Chloe has amassed more than 43k collective streams from releasing of just a handful of singles. We definitely suggest that you follow this rising starlet, as the quality of work that she makes really is quite special.

EDA NIVES – MAD

EDA NIVES has been on our radars for a couple of years now, so we’re stoked to see that her career has been thriving since.

New single ‘MAD’ is one of our favourite releases of the month. It’s a raw slice of alternative pop that hits you instantly from the moment you press play and is sure to stay in your minds for the rest of the day.

“I wrote this song after being massively done over by a guy who wasn’t ever worth my stress and time. One of my friends even described him as ‘rotten’ and ‘beastly’. Yet still I couldn’t get enough of him. UNTIL I REALISED! One day it rushed over me and I saw how vile he was and how awfully he treated me. This song is all about that realisation… realising I was MAD!”

If you’re based in the UK, then keep an eye out for EDA this weekend; you’ll be able to catch her performing on ITV’s The Voice on Saturday night. Really exciting stuff for an incredibly talented singer and songwriter… one to watch!

The track showcases the emerging singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist’s skills at crafting superb pop-rock sounds, and is sure to propel her name further into the spotlight.

Inspired by the realisation that a relationship wasn’t heading in the direction it was once hoped for, the song’s lyrics will likely resonate with many of us who have experienced disappointment in romances.

New single ‘Hot Moon’ is a perfect example of what this artist has to offer. The track is beautifully melodic, while its inspiring lyricism encourages listeners to consider the power of nature that surrounds us.

“This is my empowerment anthem for all women and people who can feel overpowered by the forces of nature. ‘Hot Moon’ is a song about the ebbing and flowing tides of being a woman.
