New Music: Chrome Daphne

If you’re a fan of acts like HONNE and Whilk & Misky then get ready for a new favourite. Chrome Daphne are a Toronto-based duo comprised of producer & multi-instrumentalists Chris da Silva and Jay Cherr.

This is a finessed sound that seamlessly blends mellow disco tones with elements of moody R&B and sultry, soulful pop.

‘There’ was inspired by a short-lived romance that left Cherr wanting more in terms of intimacy, and when that relationship ended, it led him to a state of mindfulness.

“Out of all the things in the world, all the things we can experience and feel as humans – why do we feel this need to rush? What is there to rush, honestly? Aren’t we just “there” to feel as close and as amazing as we can? Let’s just put aside all of these worries and insecurities for these few moments that we’re in bed together. If it feels this good, let’s make it last for as long as we can.” – Jay Cherr, Chrome Daphne

Yung Bae – Straight Up Relaxin

Portland-based producer Yung Bae has mastered a distinctive approach to music making that flirts between smooth jazz, funk and old school hip-hop, through to Studio 54 disco and Japanese city pop.

Co-produced by HONNE, new single ‘Straight Up Relaxin’ might just be your new favourite slice of funk this week.

Watch: HONNE – WHAT WOULD YOU DO? (feat. Pink Sweat$)

Ushering in a new era of their sound’s evolution, Alfitude favourites HONNE join forces with breakout RnB star Pink Sweat$ on the release of ‘WHAT WOULD YOU DO?’.

The accompanying visuals (directed by Ian Robertson) tell of a love story that unfurls in the heart of a pastel-toned suburbia, with HONNE cast in supporting roles as paper boy and gardener. Pink Sweat$ also features, performing his verse through the dashboard screen of the protagonist’s soft-top convertible, with the video matching the warm, summer glow of the track itself.

“In the past, we’ve limited ourselves. We might get to a section of a song and things are getting really exciting, but we then pull ourselves back and say, ‘Can we really do that?’. Now, we’ve sidestepped the rules and done whatever we wanted to do.” – HONNE

Watch: HONNE – no song without you (London session)

London duo HONNE (one of my all time favourite bands) have just released a new acoustic EP, ‘no song without you: dream edits’, which reimagines six tracks from their mixtape ‘no song without you’.

Perfect listening for lockdown, wherever you are in the world, and a reminder of just how happy their sound can make you feel.

HONNE – Me & You ◑ / I Just Wanna Go Back ◐

We’ll be dropping two new tracks – one ‘Love Me (◑)’ and ‘Love Me Not (◐)’ – on the last Friday of every month until August.
And as it happens to be the last Friday of April today we have 2 new tracks to share with you!

The first is ‘Me & You ◑’, a track we made with one of our favourite artists from the UK, Tom Misch. The second is ‘I Just Wanna Go Back ◐’, a track that describes the feeling of missing someone who used to be a big part of your life.

Live: HONNE at The Roundhouse

Probably the most anticipated gig of the year for me. I’ve made no secret of how much I love HONNE so seeing them at London’s Roundhouse last night was just… Epic.
