There was zero doubt in my mind that this Danish talent was going to be huge, and it’s so great to see it come to reality; he’s recently hit 12 millions streams on Spotify with ‘Beautiful Scars’.
“I hung out with the wrong people and did a lot of things I regret. I literally lived my life on the edge at the age of 13 and ‘Beautiful Scars’ is me learning to deal and live with my flaws.”
You hear a band every so often and you can tell from the start that there’s something extra special about their energy. That’s the sense I get with this Danish indie pop outfit. It’s hard to describe how I feel when I hear this song, it’s just a very unique experience.
Off Bloom continue to surprise me with their releases. On ‘Mona Lisa’ we get treated to smooth indie vibes that carry just the right tempo to get you shuffling around.
“‘Never Lie’ is about growing but not growing up. To me it’s the soundtrack to a reckless summer night out and about, ending in a loud and dark nightclub dancing into the sunset.”
A very cute release from rising Danish talent Nicklas Sahl, who is back today with a song that sums up the helplessness you experience from missing someone you like.
“When the loneliness hits you and you get dragged into the illusion of missing the girl, even though you know deep inside that it’s not rational. The classic situation where you are standing in a bar, sending her a text, knowing that you will regret it at the very next moment. In the song, I walk the line and go out and scream her name towards the window frame and wake up all the neighbours. In real life, I go to the studio and write a song about doing it instead. It is easier to tell the story and yell it out from the speakers than out in the real world.”
Taken from the forthcoming album, which is due by end of summer.
Track of the week. A blend of indie, soul and RnB that’s been crafted together in a way that transcends any expectation you would have of how it could sound, and created something genuinely new to experience.
This Danish trio never cease to surprise me with their releases – I’ve lost count of how many genre’s they have experimented with in the last few years.
I love it in all honesty; I wish more pop bands were this fearless. Here we are treated to a slice of indie pop, blended with some subtle reggae tones.
New album ‘Garden’ is set for release on June 19 on Copenhagen Records.
“Second Date is written on the beach in Tenerife. It’s a ‘fun’ & honest song about struggling with intimacy issues & being vulnerable emotionally but put across in an uplifting way”
An eclectic and experimental Danish electro pop sound with hints of RnB.
“Spell” is about being extremely attracted to another person because of how forbidden the attraction is. I had an Indian snake charmer on my mind when I was working on the theme of the song. Sonically it perfectly illustrated the seductive mood that I had in mind. So, the forbidden attraction is strong on both sides, – I am held captive by my feelings towards this person, but at the same time the person is being seduced by my kattelicious powers.”
I usually stay away from live versions of songs on this site, but this performance from Danish songstress Molina is so unusual and visually captivating.
Taken from the EP ‘Vanilla Shell’. Give it a spin here.
A collaborative project featuring a group of ladies who are solo stars in their own right, coming from the US, UK, Denmark and New Zealand. And when you listen to this track you can feel their real love of soul coming through, and it’s the most magical vibe.
While already crafting a name for himself in native Denmark, this is a talent that is well worth sharing with the rest of the world. A blend of pop and soft indie tones create a sound that is both easy to enjoy while also carries a deeper sense emotion.
Taken from the sophomore album ‘Hope, Fear & Fashion’ which is out soon.
