You wouldn’t expect reggae to be an obvious choice of style to cover Adele, but Alaine did it and it’s good.

A good Adele cover…
Wet take on Adele’s debut. Cute.
Aretha Franklin covers ‘Rolling In The Deep’
Haim win BBC Sound of 2013
The winner of that big music predictor, the BBC Sound of 2013 has finally been announced as the all-sister group Haim.
While it’s an interesting choice to win, personally I haven’t been much a fan of this band although I did suspect that they would top the poll going by the amount of buzz that’s been going around in the blogosphere.
Having formally predicted the rise of artists such as Jessie J, Adele, 50 Cent and Ellie Goulding, the ‘BBC Sound’ poll is generally seen as one of the more accurate new-music predictors, so it should be interesting to see how Haim pan out over the next year.
Listen to Adele’s Bond theme for Skyfall
Adele will sing the next Bond theme
The new movie’s out soon, and the song will take the name of the film itself, Skyfall. Most likely to be out in October. Exciting!
A very good Adele reworking. Very good indeed.

Listen to a very different sounding cover of Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’
Covers are everywhere- specially for songs that are in the process of defining current pop. This is Work Drugs‘ cover of Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’ and it’s turned a very bolshy and intense original into a breezy, sort of sad track. I like this a lot.
First Watch: Maverick Sabre ‘I Need’
This has to be absolutely my favourite song of the month. Previously featured on here back in March this year, this is the new single from Maverick Sabre. It’s a boy version of Adele and Amy. This is TALENT.
So who’s going home with a Mercury?
We’ll find out on BBC2 in the UK from 10pm tonight with the highly annoying Lauren Laverne (or ‘1995’ as I like to call her). If you do a Google Image search for the awards, PJ Harvey seems to be the most googled artist today, but it’s anyone’s game.
UPDATE: PJ Harvey won.
I never thought an X Factor audition would make me cry…
… until I saw this young student, Jade Richards, belt out some Adele on tonight’s show. It’s watching moments like this that make me feel so lucky to love music as much as I do. Spectacular.
Free Download: Adele ‘Someone Like You’ (Buffetlibre Remix)
I remember the first time I heard Adele‘s Chasing Pavements and being driven to tears, even though I had no idea what chasing pavements stood for. Now I do. But it’s testament to this girl’s amazing talent. Buffetlibre are one mighty big set of remixers- check out this download of ‘Someone Like You’.
