Caye – WE LOVE PT. 1

Photo / ibynoe

Boston artist, songwriter and producer Caye may not be a name familiar to many, but this critically acclaimed multi-disciplinarian already holds more than 70 million catalogue streams under his belt, and has worked alongside global artists like Alessia Cara, Abhi the Nomad and Meghan Trainor.

Inspired by the concept of self-discovery, new single ‘WE LOVE PT. 1’ was entirely written, performed, recorded, produced by Caye himself, and even features the sounds of an Australian didgeridoo.

“‘We Love’ was written when there were no shows, no access to live anything. I grew up going to shows, playing shows, and love touring and I needed to feel some of that during the last two years without it. I made these songs to escape to a different world when the world around me froze.”

Over the next eight months, Caye will be releasing a new single monthly – culminating in an album that listeners can look forward to next year.

harrison cole – wait till june

Rising UK talent harrison cole unveils his new single today, and it’s one of the catchiest bops you’ll likely experience all weekend.

Created in collaboration with producer & writer Theo Douke, ‘wait till june’ presents listeners with a classic indie-pop production that feels summery and uplifting in tone.

“When writing the song, I really wanted to make something positive, catchy and relatable. As the topic grew it turned into a song about missing that person before they’ve even left and how the anticipation of that distance between you two is sometimes just as hard as the time apart itself.”

To date, this young artist has already accumulated almost 500k catalogue streams on Spotify alone, thanks to songs like ’19’, ‘breaking my bank’ and ‘eyelash’.

New Music: Will Alpine

Emerging from Los Angeles is rising songwriter and producer Will Alpine. With a genre-defying style of music-making, Alpine constructs sonic experiences that are like nothing you may have heard before.

Drawing inspiration from outfits like Gorillaz, new single ‘Orange’ showcases this talent’s exceptional skill. Eccentric and highly original in character, the track was written, mixed and produced by Alpine himself.

“After the end of a toxic relationship, I found that I had lost my identity and sense of self. In the period of fallout and self induced isolation, I explored how to find myself again, with ‘Plastic Daisy’ [forthcoming EP] as my medium. ‘Orange’ reflects on the potential negative effects of living in Los Angeles and battling the infatuation of what once was.”

Listeners can look forward to the Hollywood-based artist’s upcoming EP, ‘Plastic Daisy’, which is out soon.

DYLYN – Skin and Bone

Following on from the release of her latest EP ‘Bring on the Blues’, Canadian starlet DYLYN returns with show-stopping new single ‘Skin and Bone’.

With its playful blend of pop and classic rock, the song treats listeners to a sound that feels both nostalgic and current in equal measures. Speaking on the track, DYLYN says:

“‘Skin and Bone’ is about a rare soul connection that makes your world explode. While I was writing this song with Parker Bossley, we had a conversation about first loves and how potent they are. Your world feels so colourful and fragile. Everything is so intense. You chase that feeling of a first love in songwriting in a way. It is so new and exciting. To love someone to the skin and bone. I thought that was a beautiful visual – you never forget your first.”

With praise from the likes of Clash, PopMatters, American Songwriter and Popdust, DYLYN continues to prove herself as one of Canada’s most exciting pop talents.

KhakiKid – Sports & Tattoos

One of our favourite talents to have emerged so far this year has been 22-year old Dublin rapper KhakiKid.

Today marks the return of this rising artist with his new single ‘Sports & Tattoos’, taken from the upcoming debut EP entitled ‘Elevator Music’ (releasing in September).

Perfectly balancing elements of hip hop with pop, soul and funk, the track showcases KhakiKid’s sharp observations on unspoken love:

“You know those mates of yours that should be a couple but just won’t accept it? They’ve been friends so long that they think it’d be weird to see each other but it’s obvious they’re both into one another. That’s what ‘Sports & Tattoos’ is about. They can’t help but flirt with each other but always play it off as a joke. They’re afraid of making a move in case it’ll ruin everything.”

After selling out his own headline show earlier this year in Dublin, KhakiKid is set to perform at several festivals over the summer – including Longitude, Forbidden Fruit and Otherside.

New Music: MIYA MIYA

MIYA MIYA are a British collective of artists who have already amassed over 100 million career streams to date through their own songs, collaborations and co-writes.

Injecting nostalgic 00’s punk sounds into a modern alt-pop production, new single ‘H8 Me 2’ is an anthemic and bold release that looks certain to become one of the summer’s biggest bops.

“It’s a love/hate letter towards us breaking the mould and becoming an independent band. In January we were in between finishing songs and were trailing through all the old favourite films that made us feel nostalgic. We came across 10 Things I Hate About You and, with what we were going through at the time, it felt like such a great idea for a song; we jumped in the studio, grabbed the acoustic guitar and wrote the hook in what felt like very little time. We also felt most current love songs were a bit one-sided, so wanted to flip it on its head and write about the side of a relationship people don’t tend to sing about. Leah Kate clearly caught the same wave!”

With praise from the likes of Clash, Rolling Stone, Wonderland, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing, this group could well be one of the UK’s next biggest pop exports.

Gimme Gimme – Day Drinking

Emerging duo Gimme Gimme return today with a playful slice of summery bliss through the release of new single ‘Day Drinking’.

Signed to Havêa Records, the brother-sister project of Australian artists Will Henderson and Esther Henderson expertly fuse elements of lo-fi pop with dreamy indie and nostalgic soul to create a sound that is impossible not to fall in love with.

“We were in the very first lockdown of COVID and at our mothers place enjoying our first solid family hangs for years, Will was making huge batches of alcoholic ginger beer that we would mix with spiced rum. As the days melted into weeks of monotony the drinks came out earlier and earlier. The track is some classic romantic Henderson weirdness and a heap of inspiration from Aretha Franklin as well as a track called ‘Got A Feelin’ by Rookie Season.”

The song marks the first release from Gimme Gimme’s upcoming EP, which is due out later in the year. In the meantime, be sure to check out the duo’s most recent record, ‘Taylor St’.

dhruv – Blur

With over 290 million streams already under his belt, artist & multi-instrumentalist dhruv has marked himself as one of the most promising R&B-pop talents to emerge from London in recent years.

Following on from his sold-out show in the capital last month and his upcoming (also sold out) shows in New York and LA, dhruv releases sublime new single ‘Blur’, of which he says:

“Sonically, I wanted to push myself outside of my comfort zone and play around with a different palette of sounds. My first EP was made very intimately and is quite lo-fi. Working on something as grand and lush as ‘Blur’ was a challenge, but really rewarding. ‘Blur’ is about the initial high of falling for someone new and those surreal moments where life begins to feel like a dream.”

Critically acclaimed by the likes of Billboard, NME and Paper Magazine, this is one artist who is almost certain to hit the global mainstream over the next year.

New Music: IDMAN

Photo / Khufu Najee

Introducing singer, songwriter and artist IDMAN. With a refreshingly original approach to music-making, this multi-talented creative is inspired to write songs that address current social issues, while also empowering listeners to live their authentic lives.

Captivating new single ‘Look At What I’m Doing To You’ touches on IDMAN’s heritage, and provides commentary on the state of cultural appropriation.

“‘Look At What I’m Doing To You’ was the first song I ever recorded. This was the song that got me through so many doors and opened a lot up for me in my career. It speaks to an exclusive experience for those who know what I’m saying and have felt what I’m saying. If culture were a person, what would she say?… Look at what we’ve done to you, we are everything you do. Every part of everything you think is yours is us. In its conceptualisation and at the very base of every atom, we are you, and you wish.”

The track follows on from IDMAN’s critically acclaimed single ‘Good Life’, which picked up praise from the likes of Complex and Sidedoor.

Weston Estate – So Good

Photo / Camila Noreiga

Track of the week. Garnering more than 50 million career streams to date, Weston Estate are rapidly becoming one of the most loved alt-pop outfits to emerge from North America in recent years.

Summery new single ‘So Good’ follows on from the group’s ‘Maggie Valley EP’, and is inspired by the notion of new experiences.

“This song embodies new beginnings. We are entering a new chapter in our lives, and this song was born out of foreign emotions and inspiring travels. Finding ourselves in LA for the first time, we were looking for new experiences. We turned to Val and Trevor from Fiji Blue to help us create a bossanova-infused, classical pop song.”

Weston Estate perform at New York’s Let’s Get Free Festival in August, and Delaware’s Firefly Festival in September.
