Minimal, sleek and soulful Danish pop from a promising new talent. The song itself, unsurprisingly, looks at appreciating the genuine relationships you have with those who really care about you, rather than the false connections you make through social media interactions or following the latest trends.
In my view, it’s near impossible not to fall in love with this song immediately once you press play.
Born and raised in London by Danish and Japanese parents, Copenhagen-based talent Mina Okabe is still only 20 years old. Yet somehow, there’s a sense of timelessness in her sound that feels mellow, soulful and inviting, all the while being effortlessly cool.
‘I’m Done’ is out via Copenhagen Records on 30th October 30 2020.
I’ve lost count at the number of times I have featured Danish outfit Liss on Alfitude, and I don’t think it will slow down any time soon either.
This release fuses their trademark blend of melancholy indie with funky retro vibes. Make sure you play the song the whole way through, because it’s progression is too damn good to miss.
Hugo Helmig has steadily become one of the biggest new pop names in his native Denmark. Could this track be the one to get him wider attention in Europe?
I really believe that it’s a matter of time before Alex Holtti’s popularity crosses over from Denmark to the rest of Europe. It’s just a very polished form of pop that is so easy to listen to.
I’m a sucker for nostalgic tracks, and I am probably one of the world’s biggest Kwamie Liv fans, so this song is the highlight of my weekend. Hope you like it too!
‘17 is about nostalgia. It’s about looking back and remembering what was, with bittersweet appreciation. We can never return to that time but the memories live on.“
Hailing from the city of cool, Copenhagen-based trio Lemon Palace create a polished and finessed blend of indie and pop which feels effortless yet sleek in equal measures.
Watch out for the debut EP which will be released in early 2021.
Judging by the stream of singles so far, Palace Winter are shaping up to release one of the most exciting Danish albums later year. This track came about when the band were watching a Jimi Hendrix documentary and saw Little Richard come on.
“Little Richard came on and we were both just floored by how f***in’ alive and funny and inspiring he was. So, he kind of became this little team mascot for us. Like, just do it ALL! ‘Put some sugar on it, man! MORE!’ So this song is exactly that. Richard says yes to f***in’ EVERYTHING! It’s a ‘big colourful banger to fill the canvas.’ – Carl Coleman, Palace Winter
Taken from the upcoming album ‘…Keep Dreaming, Buddy’ which you can pre-save now ahead of it’s release on 23rd October.
If you’re a fan of the halcyon days of Britpop and UK indie from the 90’s, then Paper Tigers could well be your new flavour of the month. This is a bold Danish indie rock sound, unashamedly punchy, full of attitude and character.
A refreshingly bold soul-pop talent who fuses punchy beats with indie tones to create something quite spectacular. The song itself is an empowering anthem for self-love affirmation, and is totally infectious.
“It’s really about not being frightened of appearing vulnerable.”
Danish soul-pop songstress Rosa Raye is back with another slice of musical perfection.
This song reminisces of the good times from a relationship that has ended; it takes the pain and serves it in a beautifully blissful way.
“We actually kept the demo vocal on the track, so what you hear is just what I wrote and recorded that day. I wasn’t trying to say the right, correct things – I was just expressing a feeling. I don’t sugarcoat it because stuff like that hurts. But sometimes when the truth hurts, you just want to escape and make yourself feel good by thinking about the good memories and ignoring the bad, so the song is not too serious. There are some fun lines in there.”
Already an established name in her native Denmark, Jada continues to release some of the country’s finest RnB-pop. I think it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the world wakes up to this fabulous talent.
“I grew up in the 00s and this has shaped my creativity, my music, and my life. With this song, I was as inspired by this musical era as I wanted to. To me, this means combining elements of the outer space and infinite universe with intimacy, intensity, and drama. And I just love that.”
A finessed blend of soul, RnB and pop from a new Danish artist-producer who’s crafted a song that feels sultry and smooth, yet very mischievous.
The track is inspired by Mahrow’s own life stories of being ‘that guy’ that girls turn to when they get bored of their own partner.
“Something about the drama that comes with it is so tempting and interesting to dive into, and the whole mystery of it is fuelled with adrenaline and sensuality. Although when it comes down to it, it’s only a brief excitement, ’cause there’s no real love involved. It’s all a matter of skin against skin and the hunger for new things.”
Danish electronic power-pop doesn’t come more fantastic than this. A track that takes retro vibes and turns them upside down, to create something that’s not only refreshing but also really feel-good.
