Watch: Keeper – Change

Nu-punk artist Keeper returns with hard-hitting new single ‘Change’. Fusing elements of midwest emo with UK hip-hop and pop-punk, the track contrasts a fun sound against powerful and relevant lyrics.

This theme carries through with the video too, making use of important imagery to convey the serious undertones of the upbeat track:

“I felt it needed a more realistic stand. Things are bad right now, housing crisis, climate change, systemic racism. But through community, government pressure, and understanding you could start rolling the ball.”

mags – as long as we’re both breathing

Danish pop starlet mags returns today with another hi-energy bop in the shape of catchy new single ‘as long as we’re both breathing’.

This powerful love anthem tells of a heartfelt story of love and hate, while also carrying one of the most explosive choruses to come out of the Nordic pop scene this year!

“I wrote ’as long as we’re both breathing’ as my modern take on the famous words ’till death do us part’. It’s about the declaration of love – to stay together for better or worse. ‘as long as we’re both breathing’ is a song that emphasises the importance of communication and understanding as the keys to balance between love and hate in any close relation –two very different feelings that are often very close to each other on the emotional spectrum.”

Daniel Joy – GONE GIRL

Fusing elements of that distinctive pop-rock sound from the 2000’s with a more modern twist, Danish artist Daniel Joy returns today with a new release in the form of ‘Gone Girl’.

A song about loving someone but not being able to be with them, the track carries a charming sense of melancholy and is sure to stay in your head all day.

“The song came out of nowhere. I must have spent a month trying to write about how I felt, and suddenly the chorus popped into my head. The song is about me not understanding why it’s not enough to love someone, about having nightmares where she’s found someone new and lastly a promise to my naive hopeless romantic self, that if you love someone enough, you can get back to them, but first you have to accept that they are gone.”

New Music: Cyrano

Proving himself as one of Scotland’s most promising indie talents of late, producer and singer Cyrano creates stunningly dreamy and impactful pieces of music that feel both epic and cinematic in scale.

New single ‘Collateral’ is a coming of age track that embodies themes of independence, introspection, and the subconscious mind.

“‘Collateral’ has always felt like one big epiphany to me. Like Fight Club, the lyrics are meant to be a shared conversation with both a lover and with myself. It’s about those feelings of reliance and dependency on someone else, while striving for independence and autonomy over oneself. I wanted to personify those parallels in the structure, moving from verse – chorus to chorus – verse, and ending with a moment of self-actualisation.”

End of the Line’ is a song about being young and free to do what ever you want to do. It tells a story about being in a place in the world where all of these things are possible; the freedom to find your own way in life.

Charlotte Rosse – One More Try

It’s impossible not to be moved by the sheer power of Charlotte Rosse’s vocals. The London and Monaco based singer-songwriter releases her new acoustically arranged collection of songs today, and as expected it is all so utterly sublime. ‘One More Try’ is her rendition of a George Michael classic, and she explains:

“The third song from my acoustic EP is a tribute to the often overlooked George Michael. I wanted to refer with my latest release to the sound of the early 90’s and he was one of the biggest icons of that time. I have never before released such a vulnerable song, I think people already know the dramatic side of me and this time I wanted to share a different more gentle side. Still I performed the song in a soulful, classically influenced way backed by the piano and a string quartet.”

New Music: Evening Is Youth

A rousing and anthemic approach to indie-rock and alt-pop from New Zealand newcomers Evening Is Youth. New single ‘Did You Find Your Brain’ is a bold, confident yet thought-provoking piece that is accompanied by equally interesting visuals. On the video, band member Connor describes the anonymous figure as:

“A blank canvas for the listener, a vehicle for them to project their own feelings of isolation, identity and self worth on – whilst, at the same, time representing the universality of the world we live in.”

New Music: rollerblader

A hugely talented duo who are no strangers to the music industry, Jacob Evergreen and Maxwell Flanders have already toured, written and recorded with artists like Jesse McCartney, Rooney, Rachel Platten, Mormor, Echosmith and Madison Beer to name but a few. So it comes as no surprise that their sound is a polished and incredibly addictive blend of indie-pop and rock, with a case in point being new single ‘Heartback’.

The track is all about frontman Evergreen, and the experience he had on a three month-long tour falling for a girl who just simply preferred girls.

Ivytide – rent free

It’s safe to say that Ivytide are responsible for some of the finest fusions of pop an and indie to emerge out of Canada right now.

Their new single ‘rent free’ is an upbeat number with distinctive vocals and rapped verses, serving as a perfect addition to your playlists.

“‘rent free’ plays with the metaphor of an individual crashing uninvited at a lover’s penthouse suite, making the place their own. The depiction of a cost-free and care-free lifestyle throughout the song is analogous to the comfortable behaviour of someone living rent free and occupying a special place in your mind.”

Taken from the upcoming EP ‘softy’ which is set for release on 1st September 2021.

PENNY – Ur Girl’s Fine

PENNY’S latest release ‘Ur Girl’s Fine’ has to be one of my favourite indie-pop tracks of the week. With those angelic vocals floating over an irresistible synth refrain, the song is a mid-tempo banger that marks a particularly difficult time in her life.

“When I wrote ‘Ur Girl’s Fine’, I was well and truly trapped in a toxic and abusive environment, and the song was just a way for me to romanticise the whole situation; a way to convince myself it was all normal and fine. I feel sorry for the girl who wrote this song back then, but I also feel so proud of how much she’s grown and changed. These days, I like to sing this song as a love note to myself, and to those pals who’ve been there for those sweet, sweet memories.”

evrYwhr – Tie Dye

Grammy award winning-Michigan native evrYwhr is back with a nostalgic slice of perfection in the form of ‘Tie Dye’. This is an eclectic blend of RnB and pop, written as a way to encourage listeners to just BE, much like the free flowing colours of the Tie Dye pattern.

“In every song I write, I try to keep it real, keep it positive, keep it light. I’ve loved the Motown sound my entire life and continue to draw on my roots, even as I work on new songs and ideas.”
