New Music: Diamond Doves

I instantly fell in love with their track ‘Club Night’, it’s epic in a subdued kinda way. Check out here.

Live: The Streets at Brixton Academy

You might know that I go crazy over The Streets… I don’t know why but it resonates with me. Last night they played Brixton Academy in London for what will probably be the very last time in their 10 years as a project, so I had to go. While everyone around me was fucked off their faces, I couldn’t help but get emotional- a lot of things have happened to me this last decade with Skinner’s songs playing as a soundtrack.

I felt as though I was 18 again, just coming out of school and freaking out over the future, being in relationships with people I shouldn’t have, and discovering stuff about myself that I never knew.  Anyway, it’s sad that The Streets are over, but it did end in an epic way last night. There’s more pics on my Flickr… They’re mostly shit just because I couldn’t stop moving around.

Until Amy Winehouse comes back, Dionne will fill the void in my soul

Dionne Bromfeld hit the headlines last year when she became the first signing to Amy Winehouse‘ record label, Lioness Records. I didn’t think much of it back then, despite Amy being the one singer who’s held my heart since the early noughties. Now Dionne has a proper single that is actually pretty good. Check out here. Dionne, you’re amazing. Ask Amy to make uncle Alfie happy and chuck a new album for him yea?

New Music: 4 Guys From The Future

”Just as the track is a multifaceted pop song we wanted tomake a multifaceted video. We were compelled about thiscertain space in which the abstract and the human emotionalare brought together with symbols about the universallife. The future, we believe, holds a new form of communityfor all people and this we will soon begin to encounter. Thatis why we want to explore symbols about the universal.” Check out here.

New Music: Matthew P

I’m not sure how long Matthew P has been around but I only just received an email about him today. This is the sort of laid back music I imagine someone writes up by the beach, which is very cool and makes me a bit jealous of being stuck in Shepherd’s Bush… Even though this isn’t the sort of think I would have on my iPod, I still think it’s worth mentioning. Anyway, check out here.

Alfitude is 1 year old today!

This time last year I started Alfitude with a crappy little post I wrote up after being a bit bored and having too much wine. I didn’t know what it would turn out to be, or whether I would even keep working at it. One year on, I’m having way too much fun blogging away. Thank you to all the artists who’ve been in touch, PR and labels… It’s awesome working with you and I’m so excited about the year ahead!

Our first day online only brought in 4 people. We’ve come a long way since then (as of this morning we’ve had a total of 34,722 hits since we started, and we’re averaging 300 hits a day now), so keep telling your friends about us- join the Facebook group if you haven’t yet, and if you want to be featured let us know!

Thank you for checking Alfitude out, I love you so much. Cake time!

Why I love Cassius

Cassius– do you remember them? A really long time ago they released this:

I still remember being at school when it came out, and being too young to go out clubbing I was just so jealous that there were older kids getting drunk in clubs dancing to this. It was followed up with this little lo-stomper:

I would later discover that there’s was nothing ultra cool about clubbing at all. But while this song was out, to me, I just imagined this amazing nightlife where anything was possible. And then Cassius went a bit quiet. They carried on making tunes like this one with Jocelyn Brown:

… but they just weren’t as good as old Cassius. As time went by, so did my memory of Cassius, and how they made me feel so funky as a kid. Then, while trawling through some blogs on Valentine’s night this year, all alone and single, I see one blogger posting this piece of pure Cassius genius on their page:

… I mean, it’s new, but sounds like something they would have done back in 1999. I don’t hear many new songs these days that make me feel 15 again, but this was definitely one of those tracks. They’ve signed up to the amazing Ed Banger label, home of Justice, Mr Oizo, Uffie, DJ Mehdi and SebastiAn. Their new signing, Breakbot, is pretty fresh. So thank you Cassius for coming back and being spectacular- I feel like an indestructible teen again!
