Love You Later – Are You Gonna Care When I Die?

Nashville-based singer and songwriter Love You Later (aka Lexi Aviles) is back with an anthemic new release that demands your attention!

Serving as a taster to Lexi’s upcoming ā€˜From The Window Seat’ EP (out 5th May), ‘Are You Gonna Care When I Die?’ is a song dedicated to self-empowerment, and reminds us to embrace and celebrate ourselves for who we are.

ā€œI wrote this song when I felt like I was drowning in rejection from the music industry, and in the real world. No-one seemed to care or listen or take me seriously. I realised that the attention from these people was not worth my time or energy, and ultimately did not define me. The song is a constant reminder to myself to regain my voice and power to tell my own story. It’s a song for anyone who feels insignificant and undermined.ā€

Love You Later has come a long way since her days of being rejected in the music industry. Aviles currently commands more than 65k monthly listeners on Spotify, and has garnered over eight million career streams to date.

New Music: Elizabeth Hume

Fans of 90’s indie will absolutely fall in love with American newcomer Elizabeth Hume.

‘Breathing’ is the first single off Hume’s upcoming EP, which was completed in collaboration with producer Nolan Garrett.

Inspired by the euphoric emotions that we experience while we are in love, the song treats listeners to an airy and lofty fusion of indie, folk and pop.

“‘Breathing’ is an expression of feeling content in love. Wanting to know everything about the person that brings you this sense of joy. There is nothing like listening to the breathing of a loved one and witnessing them live with beauty and adoration.”

Hume’s EP will consist of five songs, and was written and recorded while she was on her gap year after finishing high school. Elaborating on the forthcoming project, Hume explains:

“The content of this EP centres around inspecting and reflecting on aspects of mental health, relationships, and figuring out where personal identity fits into it all.”

girlhouse – you don’t think about me

It feels like we first heard of girlhouse only yesterday, but this ever-emerging American starlet is already preparing the release of her fourth record, aptly titled ā€˜the fourth ep’ (out 4th May).

‘you don’t think about me’ is one of the songs to be lifted from the EP, and treats us to a rousing mix of indie-rock and bedroom pop. Speaking on the lyrics behind the track, girlhouse says:

“Inspired by social anxiety and my hyper fixation on understanding and putting meaning to everything! I go down rabbit holes in my head trying to fix everything I’ve ever done wrong or stupid things I’ve said, to the point where it almost feels egotistic. It drives me nuts and it’s a constant battle for me. In this song I’m talking about a falling out I had with someone that I couldn’t figure out why they do or say the things that they do. I had to stop myself because, ā€œthere is no way this person is putting as much energy into figuring this out as I am right now!!ā€ And I dropped it. I’m getting better at learning when to walk away and that’s been a hard journey for me.”

Having already amassed more than 14 million catalogue streams to date on Spotify alone, it seems certain that girlhouse will become America’s next big indie-pop global export.

If you’re in the mood for some soulful disco-pop this weekend, then London’s Liv East has got you covered.

Through its shimmering production (courtesy of collaborator Lokes LDN), ‘Love Frequency’ presents listeners with a mesmerising and heady sound that invokes feelings of pleasure and positivity. Elaborating further on the song’s inspiration, Liv explains:

ā€œI wrote the lyrics to ‘Love Frequency’ at the end of 2020, after the whole world went through a monumental shift. I felt such a dark cloud hanging over me and knew I had to write something to shift myself out of that place and mentality. ‘Love Frequency’ is a call to becoming aware of the power of your thoughts, and that so much lies in how we choose to think. It’s a warm soulful house track, invoking good vibrations. It feels like an important moment to showcase to my listeners how my personal philosophy impacts the music I make.ā€

Liv East is currently an unstoppable force. Her last single, ‘So Badly’, went on to pick up support from outlets like BBC Radio and Rinse FM, as well as publications as noted asĀ The Independent,Ā Vogue FranceĀ andĀ Earmilk.

Varas – Careful What You Wish For

Photo / Lamia Karic

Alternative singer and songwriter Varas has become a regular fixture on our pages. Over the past year, we’ve seen this emerging artist release a series of singles that have not only been sonically diverse in style, but also refreshingly future-forward.

Lifted from his freshly-released ‘There You Go!’ EP (out now), ‘Careful What You Wish For’ is somewhat of an understated anthem, and treats listeners to an indie-pop sound that feels both raw and finessed in equal measures. If you grew up with the sounds of bands as iconic as The Strokes, then chances are high that you’ll love this track.

“I’ve always drawn inspiration from different styles of music. I believe I’ve always been more intrigued by other artists musical personalities, rather than their genre. I don’t believe genreless music is something I’m aiming for but if my music is difficult to define, I guess I won’t oppose that perception. The thing I do aim for is to let my personality come through, and I’d be surprised if anyone’s personality is one-sided. I contradict myself all the time, why wouldn’t my music do as well?”

Linebug – Sideways (feat. Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg)

Acclaimed Danish indie-pop outfit Linebug return today with an interesting new collaboration featuring the Deutsche Filmorchester Babelsberg, entitled ‘Sideways’.

Written in the small German town of Zeitz, the song looks the complexities that we face in today’s world, and how easy it is for us to drift with no clear direction.

“ā€œSidewaysā€ is a song about drifting without any steady direction – searching for identity in a world that is getting increasingly complex.”

‘Sideways’ marks an interesting point in this duo’s creative journey. Relocating from Copenhagen to the East German provinces in 2021, the musical collective of Line BĆøgh and Christian Gundtoft have since then gone on to work on a new album, called ‘Fast Changing Landscapes’, which will be released on the 21st April.

Elaborating on the music video for ‘Sideways’, BĆøgh explains:

ā€œTo visualise this story, Christian kind of re-animated the past of Zeitz! For this, he went treasure-hunting in the so-called ‘lost places’ in town and started sculpturing and animating all kinds of found objects. We did some experiments filming Line with stop-motion-technique, and in the end we had a strange but mesmerising portrait of a town – and a woman – drifting, hoping not to be forgotten.”

After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2015, Forsgren began work on a collection of sonic pieces under the moniker of AUTORHYTHM, called ‘Songs for the Nervous System’ (of which ‘Intercellular Communication’ is a part of).

“Autorhythmic cells function autonomously, without the need of instructions from the brain.”

The songs feature minor use of modern technology – with Forsgren opting to use audio equipment and synthesisers that are roughy aligned with his age. The resulting sound is one that is thoughtfully constructed, intelligent, and intriguing to experience.

Harve’s freshly-released collaboration with Miso Extra is the kind of song that gently reminds you of the fun times that might lie ahead for you this weekend.

Martin Luke Brown – **it gets better

They say good things come to those who wait. This is certainly the case for fans of British artist Martin Luke Brown, who can finally look forward to the release of his debut album, ā€˜damn, look at the view !’.

The collection of songs will be some of Martin’s most personal, and are inspired by themes such as childhood, nostalgia and mental health.

“Each song is like a journal entry of a specific time in my life – and it gets pretty deep at times – but ultimately the feeling I want to evoke is that life really can be simple and we should squeeze the juice out of every moment.ā€

Ahead of its launch on the 19th May (pre-save here), Martin has just unveiled a new indie-pop anthem, entitled ‘**it gets better’. Elaborating further on the song and the album itself, Martin says:

“The whole album is a big explore into mental health and general sort of coming of age, angst, nostalgia, all of it. I guess ā€˜**it gets better’ is the simplest in its meaning – I almost imagined my Mum singing it to me. It’s such a hilarious over simplification of mental health, almost like saying ā€˜don’t worry about it, it’ll blow over’. It’s ironic really, cos I’m not really entirely sure I believe that it does get better for everyone, but it’s nice for people to just feel good and have a boogie. I wanted to have a song on the record that just felt good and hopeful, as if you’ve arrived home after a long time away.ā€
