It’s Christmas time, and The Streets want to give you something (free music!)

Titled ‘I Don’t Want It To Be Me’, it’s just what you would expect an Xmas song by Mike Skinner to sound like.

MP3: Scrooge & Marley – I Don’t Want It To Be Me

Robyn’s gone off and done something amazing with a computer and one of her songs again

A while back, when Robyn’s first Body Talk album came out, she had this virtual music video thing which customised some graphics depending on what people typed it. It was hot. Now she’s done it again, only hotter. ‘Build your own beat, based on Robyn’s track We Dance To The Beat (from Body Talk), then publish your custom beat and share it with the world via Facebook and Twitter!’ Click here to access the amazingness.

BBC Sound of 2011 list revealed

This is always an exciting bit of news every year for me. The ‘BBC Sound’ poll is often the most accurate forecaster for next year’s biggest music acts, having predicted 50 Cent, Corinne Bailey Rae, Mika and Little Boots as ones to watch in the past. Visit the website here for more info. Full list is:

I’ve managed to clock 6 of those in the last year… not bad going if I do say so myself! The top five will be revealed in the week commencing 3 January.

New Music: Ace Reporter

The first song I’ve heard from Ace Reporter, ‘Untouched and Arrived’ got me hooked within seconds of playing. It’s got a folky, poppy, indie kind of vibe happening, but sounds so good without trying hard. Check out here, or download the free EP, ‘Untouched and Arrived’ here. If there’s one thing you must do right now at the very least though, it’s to give ‘ Caught In The Middle’ a listen. It’s my favourite song right now.

New Music: Volcano Choir

I have a feeling this band has been around for a while but I’ve only just stumbled across them and was simply blown away by what they were making. A collaboration by Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver, who I’m not a massive fan of as it goes…) and Collections of Colonies of Bees. ‘Island, IS’ is a surprisingly upbeat yet numb track which makes you feel a little warm inside. The video to said track is also very clever, see is you can spot why here. Check out here.

New Music: Mansions on the Moon

This band fits into the Washed Out and Active Child scheme of things- stunning lofi melodic sounds coming  from Virginia. ‘Palm of Your Hand’ is gorgeously crafted genius. Their remix album, Paradise Falls was released earlier in the autumn and had the touch of Diplo within. Download ‘Glimpse of the Future (Remix)’ here and check out their music here.

New Music: Daley

Currently featured in the Gorillaz’ lush new single ‘Doncamatic’, I’m a little excited about Daley. I reckon he might be huge this time next year in the UK with his crisp, innocent voice and simple, soulful tunes. He’s like a chilled out Erik Hassle (the hair…) You can check out his BBC Introducing session here, or go to his Myspace here and get a free download.

Liam Bailey makes amazing.

I’ve featured Liam Bailey on here a couple of times already- and I saw him at Tottenham Court Road station yesterday singing to himself in that cocksure ‘Im going to be big’ kind of way. Of course I didn’t stop him, he probably would have hit me. But it did make me wonder what happened to him- he was meant to release something last month and I didn’t really hear much about it. Anyway, I still don’t know much but I see that he’s now signed to Amy Winehouse’s label, Lioness. And the songs on his’ So Down, Cold’ E.P are pretty amazing. Above is one such song, and you can hear the rest here.
