New Music: SOFIA

A Norwegian talent who is already on an ascent; having been featured as singer and co-writer of Coucheron’s wildly popular single ‘LOUD‘, and more recently with the release of ‘I Don’t Want to Lose a Friend‘ garnering almost half a million streams and being the most played single on Norwegian radio NRK P3 this spring.

The sound itself feels organic, mellow and soulful. There’s a unique charm to the music that makes it relatable, warm and full of emotion.

Summer Heart – Good Together

Is Summer Heart Sweden’s hardest-working pop artist? This talent is consistently gifting us with some premium dream-pop, and I personally can’t get enough!

“This song is about when you meet a new person that you really like, it feels as if you fit perfectly together and you have like an ‘us against the world’ vibe, but then in the end nothing really comes out of it. Then you might look back and wonder what it would have been like if the two of you had ended up together.”

Whose Rules – Dusty R&B

The Norwegian 23-year old multi-instrumentalist returns today with a slick number; this release bounces between being playful and sweet, while still feeling an appreciation for old-school soul.

“Yet another love song… My favourite thing is to relax and chill out in my own home, and it’s even better when you are with someone you love.”

Vera Hotsauce – Hot N Saucy

Make sure you leave the next 32 minutes of your life free, because this record is literally one banger after another. Press play and go bonkers.

“This album is telling a story about an era. I’ve made so many stupid decisions that got me so many crazy memories and took me on so many fucked up adventures. But I don’t regret a single thing or a single moment from it. I wrote this album mostly drunk in LA and all the songs on it is what I’ve been feeling in the very moment in the studio. This is where you get to know me, this is where I give you a glimpse of who I am. I think it’s gonna take years to actually understand what and who I am. But here you have the introduction.”

New Music: Laurent

Following on from a break in music, Laurent has recently signed with hugely successful Made Management (one of Norway’s premier agencies and home to Aurora, Sigrid, dePresno and a ton of other talents), so you can expect to see and hear a lot more of this kid in the coming future.

Laurent’s blend of glitchy pop and RnB is a unique and entertaining experience, and this song in particular carries a storyline that many fellow artists can associate with.

“Before ‘I’m Done’ I had long tried to force myself to go back to a ‘normal’ job, but at that time struggled with it because I was too hung up on everyone else’s opinions. I was simply too proud and terrified to lose my ‘place’ and afraid that people would have a different impression of me than ‘artist’. It all started with my first day at work as a bartender in Bergen. The nightclub was in full swing and I was thrown into the bar. The first guest I was to serve was someone who recognised me from my previous music career. His first comment was ‘It went damn fast from a stage to a bar!’ This was what inspired me to write ‘I’m Done’. It feels very wrong to stand in a bar or sit in an office and promote other artists for a nightclub when you yourself are an artist, rather than working on your own artist career. I have an extremely bad conscience and I immediately feel a nasty kind of fomo (fear of missing out) feeling.”

Watch: SKAAR – Turn of the Tide

SKAAR has well and truly become an established pop newcomer in her native Norway, having had her first five singles all be A-listed on national radio.

Add to that the international buzz that this 22-year old talent has been getting from her debut track ‘Higher Ground’ which has now exceeded 11 million streams at Spotify.

This new release was written as a song for hope and looking forward when times are hard.

“We needed to let go of things that hadn’t been working for us and people that had been a bad influence. This year has been a turning point for us all. It’s important to have a song that looks towards a brighter future.”

New Music: ILON

Finland doesn’t produce many pop stars, but when it does, it really comes up with some seriously strong prospects.

Add to that roster 21-year old ILON, a talent who is already rapidly getting attention from some of the industry’s heavyweights; take Bille Eiilish and Halsey collaborator FINNEAS, who has already collaborated with the singer on a project.

Could she be the next big starlet to emerge from the Nordics? I think very possibly so…

“‘Selfish Love’ is about being hurt one too many times. The other person sees your vulnerability as a chance to abuse you, to pretend to love you to feel good about themselves. At this point you are already broken enough to see through their malevolence – You throw yourself into it completely, giving in to every emotion. Being in such a vulnerable state, it sucks to notice that the other person was never really in it wholeheartedly.”

LOVA – One Day Left

One of my favourite recent Swedish exports, LOVA returns today with a liberating track that reminds us to just loosen up and take life for what it is… The perfect message for these weird times we live in!

“No one knows what tomorrow looks like or how long we have on this planet… So instead of worrying about the small stuff like asking your crush on a date, staying up late at night wondering about what people think of you or getting jealous and upset over dumb shit, we should enjoy every day like it is our last and appreciate the things and the ones we have.”

Hedda Mae – Madness

This is one of those songs that is so unashamedly pop that it’s impossible not to feel good once you press play. Disco seems to be making a resurgence in Norway and I am here for it!

“‘Madness’ was written during the first session we had had in a while, because I live in Bergen and my producer Benjamin Giørtz (Tiësto, Betty Who), lives in Oslo, and the country had just started allowing people to travel again within Norway. It’s a buzz to be finally able to do the thing you love again, and that was probably where the bubbly, playful vibe in this song came from. The lyrics are about when someone suddenly becomes interested in you and gets really friendly, and you question yourself about where they’re really coming from. Because other people’s intentions often aren’t good, and you know you shouldn’t get involved really, but it can be difficult to keep yourself away.”

Winona Oak – With Myself

A benchmark in premium Scandinavian dark-pop, Winona Oak returns today with a new anthem of empowerment.

“I want women of all ages, all around the world to feel comfortable in their own beautiful bodies, and to stop putting somebody else’s needs and opinions in front of their own. YOU are in charge of YOUR body and YOUR sexuality – and that’s a beautiful thing so I want you to own it. It’s about time that we make more love with ourselves.”

New Music: Zikai

Having already garnered more than 7.5 million streams from previous tracks, Zikai is one Swedish name to watch out for. With a style of music that encompasses soul, RnB and pop, her songs feel immediately familiar while still fresh.

“I came home from the club knowing that I would use the crazy things that happened that night for this song. I wanted to describe that feeling of waking up and not remembering much from the night before, except the mistakes and maybe some failed attempts to reach some kind of euphoria. It’s about being in your early twenties, and not knowing exactly what direction in life you should take or what type of people you should give your energy to.”

Palace Winter – Won’t Be Long

Palace Winter wanted to create the feeling of a ‘gospel choir in space’ as an intro to this track, and that’s just the start of how eclectic this release from the Danish duo is.

Synth, soul and pop all bounce alongside one another in a sound that feels experimental and just downright cool.

Taken from the upcoming album ‘…Keep Dreaming, Buddy’ which is set to be released on 23rd October.
